Portland’s Best Restaurant Patios
Portland offers an abundance of outdoor dining options, particularly appealing during sunny weather. This guide highlights a selection of restaurants across the city that combine excellent food with appealing patio atmospheres. The focus is on establishments where the culinary experience complements the outdoor setting, ranging from casual to elegant.
Among the featured venues, 82 Acres, located in Hosford-Abernethy, has taken over the space previously occupied by Quaintrelle. It offers an opulent dining experience with a bamboo-lined patio that extends the indoor elegance outdoors. The menu emphasizes seasonal vegetable dishes and selections from a cheese cart, alongside a notable roast chicken, complemented by wines from Abbey Road Farm. In Buckman, Bauman’s on Oak, a cidery, features a substantial food menu that includes ham sandwiches on brioche, blue cheese dip, charcuterie, and seasonal salads. Their large, open lot patio is ideal for enjoying their award-winning ciders and often hosts pop-ups and events, such as pizza nights with their chef, Daniel Green.
Flying Fish Co. in Kerns provides a seafood-focused experience on its built-out parking lot patio, reminiscent of a coastal crab shack. Diners can enjoy clam chowder, salmon burgers, fish and chips, and Oregon rockfish tacos, with a weekday happy hour for oysters. G-Love, a vegetable-forward restaurant in the Northwest District, recently renovated its patio, transforming it into a permanent outdoor dining space with lanterns and awnings. Known for its “crusty avocado” and other local vegetable dishes, it also has a sister bar, the Love Shack, next door with its own lounge-style patio.
Gabbiano’s in Concordia is a bustling red-sauce spot with a covered back patio adorned with fake wine grapes and checkered tablecloths, creating a nostalgic atmosphere for enjoying Italian-American classics like spaghetti and meatballs. In Hollywood, Gado Gado specializes in Dutch-Indonesian “Rijsttafel,” offering a family-style feast. Its outdoor area, erected after COVID, is a fully covered wooden structure with floral tiles, providing a vibrant setting for dishes like soft-shell crab papaya salad. Güero in Kerns boasts a highly-regarded patio on NE 28th Avenue, featuring low stools, swinging tables, misters, and a separate summer pop-up called Farag’s, which serves wines, mezcals, and Egyptian street food.
Laurelhurst Market, also in Kerns, offers a large covered deck for both lunch and dinner, making it suitable for large celebration dinners. This butcher shop and steakhouse serves updated steakhouse classics, including caramelized onion mac and cheese and grilled New York strip steaks, under a canopy of twinkly lights. OK Omens in Hosford-Abernethy provides a sophisticated outdoor dining experience with a tree-covered sidewalk setup, offering seafood and vegetable-focused dishes and an extensive wine list. Papa Haydn’s original Sellwood-Moreland location features a bucolic patio surrounded by plants, perfect for European bistro-inspired meals and their signature boccone dolce.
Phuket Café in the Northwest District stands out with a creatively designed streetcar-style patio, painted in peachy and rosy hues with small booths. It serves tropical-vibed cocktails, tom yum noodles, and prawn curry. Finally, Tartuca in Boise, located on NE Mississippi Avenue, offers an intimate back garden patio, hidden from the street bustle. This fully enclosed, partially covered space with twinkly lights is ideal for romantic dinners featuring Italian dishes like bolognese and osso bucco, with heat lamps extending its usability into cooler weather.
