Rooms Batumi in Georgia oozes retro flair
Rooms Batumi, the newest hotel from the Georgian hospitality group Rooms, has opened in Batumi, a city on Georgia’s Black Sea coast. This hotel joins existing Rooms properties like Rooms Kazbegi, a former Soviet-era sanatorium in an Alpine village, and Rooms Tbilisi, along with its sister property Stamba, both located in a former publishing house in the capital. Rooms Batumi is strategically positioned between Batumi’s historic Old Town and its bustling port, making it a prominent new cultural hub in the city.
The hotel’s design is a collaborative effort between Rooms’ in-house design team, Collective Development, and the long-term partner Rooms Studio. Their goal was to transform the building, which was once a police station, while respecting its Soviet-era architectural heritage. The interior design of the 120 rooms reflects a retro-inspired aesthetic, featuring wood-panelled walls complemented by a neutral color palette of stone and cream. This muted backdrop is enlivened by a curated selection of statement accessories, including 1970s-print curtains, bouclé sofas, and leather-clad bed frames. The suites offer an extra touch of luxury with large circular beds and delicate textile ceiling fans.
The nostalgic color scheme extends into the hotel’s public spaces. The Lobby bar features multiple layers of wood paneling and a central wooden bar, accented by an angular sofa upholstered in forest green velvet. The Rubber Duck restaurant adopts a vintage diner aesthetic, complete with salmon pink diner stools lining an aluminum-topped bar and Scandi-style booths. Further enhancing its offerings, Rooms Batumi plans to open a rooftop pool and restaurant later in 2024. These new additions will provide panoramic views of the Black Sea, timing perfectly for the summer season. The hotel aims to provide a unique blend of historical charm and contemporary comfort, solidifying its position as a noteworthy destination in Georgia’s hospitality landscape.
