This HGTV Star Calls Out the "Trendiest" Wood to Use Right Now

The choice of wood for various home elements, such as cabinetry, flooring, and custom furniture, significantly influences a space's aesthetic and can reflect current design trends. HGTV star and contractor Israel “Izzy” Battres recently identified white oak as the most current and trendiest wood selection. This observation was made during his guest appearance as a judge on the latest episode of "The Flip Off," where he, alongside fellow contractor Jeff Lawrence, evaluated the work of competing teams, including Christina Haack and her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa with his wife Heather. Battres specifically highlighted Christina Haack's use of white oak for built-ins in an office project. While he appreciated the choice of material for its trendiness, he offered a critique regarding its integration with the room's other elements. Battres pointed out that the white oak built-ins nearly matched the luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring, which he felt detracted from the overall design. Jeff Lawrence concurred, emphasizing the need for greater contrast between the built-ins and the flooring to enhance the visual appeal of the space. During the feedback session for Haack and the El Moussas, Battres reiterated the popularity of white oak, stating, “The design of using the white oak is very trendy right now.” However, he immediately followed this by stressing the importance of proper coordination: “But you have to be able to complement the flooring with the white oak.” This advice underscores a critical principle in interior design: even trendy materials require thoughtful application to achieve the desired impact. The article suggests that those looking to incorporate this trendy wood should do so strategically. Instead of using white oak extensively throughout a space in a way that allows it to blend into the background, it is recommended to employ it for specific purposes. This approach ensures that the light wood stands out and contributes more effectively to the design, making a distinct statement rather than becoming an undifferentiated part of the room's palette. The key takeaway for designers and homeowners is to leverage white oak's popularity while carefully considering how it interacts with other textures and colors in the environment to create visual interest and contrast. #HGTV #HomeDesign #InteriorTrends #WhiteOak #WoodSelection #DesignCritique #TheFlipOff #ChristinaHaack #IzzyBattres #HGTV #HomeDesign #InteriorTrends #WhiteOak #WoodSelection #DesignCritique #TheFlipOff #ChristinaHaack #IzzyBattres
