Brick and stone mix references Edwardian style at modern homestead

A modern homestead in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, designed to blend contemporary living with traditional Edwardian architectural elements, showcases a unique facade integrating bricks and stone. The homeowners, having lived in an Edwardian house, sought to incorporate the aesthetic of that period into their new, larger residence. The design challenge involved achieving this traditional look without resorting to a mere replica, emphasizing a more modern interpretation that still resonated with the Edwardian era. The exterior features a deliberate mix of materials, specifically PGH Bricks & Pavers’ Manhattan range in Chelsea, combined with Cultured Stone by Boral's Pro-Fit Ledgestone in Southwest Blend. This combination was chosen to create a sophisticated, yet welcoming facade. The Chelsea bricks, characterized by their grey tones with subtle hints of brown and purple, provide a contemporary base, while the Pro-Fit Ledgestone adds texture and a natural, earthy feel. The selection of these materials was crucial in achieving the desired balance between modern and traditional aesthetics. Building designer, Craig White, from Insight Design, played a pivotal role in material selection, advising the homeowners on options that would align with their vision for a modern Edwardian-inspired home. The homeowners were drawn to the unique appearance of the Chelsea bricks, which stood out from other brick samples due to their distinct colour profile. The subsequent pairing with Cultured Stone was a strategic decision to introduce varying textures and depth to the facade, enhancing the overall visual interest and connection to the landscape. The Pro-Fit Ledgestone in Southwest Blend offers a practical advantage with its panelized form, allowing for quicker and more efficient installation compared to individual stone pieces. This not only streamlined the construction process but also contributed to a cleaner, more precise finish. The texture of the Ledgestone provides a striking contrast to the smoother brick, contributing to the facade's intricate character. The overall design aimed to create a home that felt established and harmonized with its rural surroundings, rather than appearing as a starkly new construction. The blend of brick and stone extends beyond mere aesthetics, contributing to the homestead's integration within its expansive rural setting. The careful consideration of material choices, from the specific colour variations of the bricks to the textured profile of the stone, reflects a detailed approach to design. The success of this project lies in its ability to marry different material qualities and architectural influences, resulting in a home that is both visually engaging and deeply rooted in its desired Edwardian-inspired character, while maintaining a modern sensibility. #EdwardianStyle #ModernHomestead #BrickAndStone #FacadeDesign #MaterialSelection #ArchitecturalDesign #CulturedStone #PGHBricks #EdwardianStyle #ModernHomestead #BrickAndStone #FacadeDesign #MaterialSelection #ArchitecturalDesign #CulturedStone #PGHBricks
