Mosa Tiles Enliven Venetian Villa by JM Architecture
JM Architecture designed a three-bedroom villa on the Venetian coast for a young family, prioritizing a low-maintenance home. The architectural studio focused on creating a design that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing, using ceramic surfaces to introduce dimension and fluidity throughout the indoor and outdoor spaces. The principal architect, Jacopo Mascheroni, selected Mosa’s award-winning ceramic tiles to achieve textural variety and address the clients' desire for minimal upkeep.
The design brief emphasized a white interior, which Mascheroni complemented with other materials to prevent the space from appearing sterile. The Mosa Quartz collection of ceramic tiles was chosen for the flooring, adding warmth to the predominantly white scheme. Mascheroni noted the importance of selecting materials that could enhance the whiteness without making the home feel clinical, especially given the absence of traditional wood finishes.
Considering Northern Italy's early nights, the architects specifically sought materials that would maintain their visual appeal under artificial lighting. The Mosa Quartz collection met this requirement, offering an original aesthetic that worked synergistically with both natural and artificial light. This created a welcoming and homely atmosphere, effectively avoiding the monotony that could result from an overuse of white. The versatility of Mosa's tiles allowed Mascheroni to integrate them across all indoor areas and even for the poolside decking, ensuring a cohesive design language throughout the property.
Beyond aesthetics, the project incorporated a strong sustainable agenda aimed at maximizing energy efficiency. Mosa’s LEED-contributing ceramic tiles, which hold Cradle-to-Cradle® Silver certification, were a key component of this strategy. These tiles were part of a broader set of eco-friendly features, which included inlaid photovoltaic panels and radiant floor heating. Mascheroni highlighted that the extensive use of Mosa tiles was instrumental in achieving the villa's sustainability goals, underscoring their functional, aesthetic, and environmental benefits within the overall design.
