314 architecture studio inserts a frosted glass façade into athens streetscape

The residential project, named 'H1002', designed by 314 architecture studio, is situated in the heart of Athens, specifically on Spefsipou Street. This new architectural intervention aims to introduce a futuristic design aesthetic into an urban fabric that largely consists of neoclassical buildings dating back to 1870. The primary design concept for H1002 revolves around creating spaces that utilize physical transparency, achieved prominently through the extensive use of frosted glass as a key feature of the building's exterior and interior. This choice of material serves to blur the visual boundaries while simultaneously illuminating the internal spaces, thereby leveraging transparency as a means to open up traditionally enclosed areas to both natural light and ventilation. Internally, panels of frosted glass are integrated into walls within each property. These panels are augmented with hidden lights, which emulate the effect of natural light permeating throughout the residence, further enhancing the sense of openness and brightness. The application of frosted glass facilitates multiple interpretations of spatial relationships and connections, introducing a degree of flexibility in how the architectural composition is organized. This approach allows for an ambiguous interplay between spaces, where zones can be simultaneously differentiated and combined. The design fosters a visual expansion of the size of spaces and creates dynamic spatial relationships across different levels of the building. Decorative arcs are incorporated into the building's façades, contributing significantly to its overall aesthetic appeal. These arcs are intended to create a more relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, evoking a sense of timelessness while maintaining a contemporary feel. The building comprises five distinct properties, one of which is directly connected to an existing neoclassical structure. All properties are strategically oriented to offer expansive views of Lycabettus Hill, a prominent and iconic landmark in Athens, thereby maximizing the scenic potential of the location. #ResidentialArchitecture #FrostedGlassFacade #AthensArchitecture #ContemporaryDesign #UrbanIntervention #TransparencyInArchitecture #LycabettusHillViews #ResidentialArchitecture #FrostedGlassFacade #AthensArchitecture #ContemporaryDesign #UrbanIntervention #TransparencyInArchitecture #LycabettusHillViews
