Talkback Gardening 'Indoor Jungle' Photo Competition
The popularity of indoor plants is experiencing a significant resurgence, attributed to their multifaceted benefits for both physical and mental well-being. These plants are recognized for their ability to enhance indoor air quality by absorbing toxins, thereby contributing to a healthier living environment. Beyond their physiological advantages, indoor plants play a crucial role in improving mental health. They are known to reduce stress levels, boost mood, and enhance focus and concentration, fostering a more relaxed and productive atmosphere within the home. The creation of a vibrant indoor garden or even the presence of a single plant can transform a living space into a tranquil sanctuary.
In celebration of this growing trend and the positive impact of indoor greenery, Deb Tribe and Sophie Thomson, hosts of ABC Radio Adelaide’s 'Talkback Gardening' program, have announced an 'Indoor Jungle' photographic competition. This initiative invites individuals to showcase their beloved indoor plants, whether it's a solitary specimen or an extensive collection forming an 'indoor jungle'. The competition aims to highlight the beauty and personal significance of these botanical companions.
Participants are encouraged to submit one photograph of their favorite indoor plant or plants, accompanied by a brief description of 40 words or less. This description should articulate the reasons behind their affection for the featured plants and the personal story or connection they share. The competition is designed to be inclusive, welcoming entries that celebrate any form of indoor greenery.
Attractive prizes await the winners. The photograph judged as the best will receive a copy of "The Plant Book: The ultimate guide to thriving houseplants," authored by Tammy Huynh of Gardening Australia. This book serves as a comprehensive resource for plant enthusiasts, offering valuable insights into successful houseplant care. Four runners-up will be awarded a package containing back issues of both ABC Gardening Australia and ABC Organic Gardener magazines, providing further inspiration and practical gardening advice.
To ensure eligibility, all entries must include the participant's full name, postal address, and telephone number. Winners will be publicly announced during the 'Saturday Breakfast’s Talkback Gardening' segment on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The submission process is streamlined, requiring entries to be sent via email to [email protected]. Key deadlines include an entry close time of 5 pm on Monday, December 1, 2025. Each individual is permitted to submit only one entry. It is important for participants to note that all submitted entries and accompanying images may be utilized on ABC websites and various social media platforms, as outlined in the competition's terms and conditions.
