6 Calming Paint Colors Designers Swear By For A Relaxing Living Room

Creating a calming atmosphere in a living room is a popular goal for many homeowners, and one of the most effective ways to achieve this is through the strategic use of paint colors. Designers frequently recommend specific shades that are known for their soothing qualities, catering to a range of preferences from neutral lovers to those who appreciate a pop of color. For those who prefer a classic and clean aesthetic, creamy whites are a top choice. Jessica Bandstra, founder of Dogwood Proper, frequently uses Sherwin-Williams Snowbound (SW 7004) and Benjamin Moore Simply White (OC-117), highlighting their timeless appeal and ability to provide a neutral backdrop for any design style. Another favored creamy white is Benjamin Moore White Dove (OC-17), which Ashley Hunt and Savannah McPartland of Haddy House describe as timeless, serene, and not too stark. Moving towards warmer tones, beige offers a cozy alternative. Melissa Fields, founder of Shades of Gray Design Studio, is particularly fond of Sherwin Williams City Loft (SW 7631). Its creamy, beige undertones are noted for creating a warm and inviting feel, encouraging relaxation. Greige, a sophisticated blend of gray and beige, provides a muted and moody ambiance. Madison Massaro, founder of Madison Lea Interiors, suggests greige for those aiming for a darker, richer palette in their living room, perfect for creating a vibey space. For a sense of tranquility, moody blues are often recommended. Danielle Balanis, founder of Danielle Balanis Design, finds these hues to be calming. She recently used Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue (No. 85) in a living room project, which received widespread praise for being balanced, comforting, and captivating. Sage green presents another excellent option for introducing color while maintaining a calming effect. Madison Massaro points out that sage green offers a muted tone compared to other greens, contributing to a softer and more peaceful atmosphere. Sherwin-Williams Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) is a particular favorite, described as evoking an organic, nature-esque feeling that pairs well with dark walnut woods and creamy linen textures. Finally, rich browns and purples can also contribute to a grounding and introspective environment. Washington, D.C. designer Rashida Banks finds rich chocolate brown hues to be very grounding. She also appreciates eggplant purple for its ability to create a calm and introspective mood. #CalmingPaintColors #LivingRoomDesign #InteriorDecor #HomeDesign #NeutralColors #AccentColors #PaintTrends #DesignerTips #CalmingPaintColors #LivingRoomDesign #InteriorDecor #HomeDesign #NeutralColors #AccentColors #PaintTrends #DesignerTips
