Nurgisa Architects has introduced a contemporary take on the traditional nomadic dwelling with their Modern Kazakh Yurt, a transformable structure designed to blend traditional principles with modern sustainability and functionality. This innovative yurt layout strategically positions bedrooms and workspaces around its 25 sqm perimeter, reserving the central area for essential kitchen and toilet facilities. A core aspect of the design is its emphasis on efficient space utilization through transformable furniture, such as beds and chairs, maximizing the functionality of the internal living area.
One of the most notable features of the Modern Kazakh Yurt is its advanced energy generation system. The exterior is composed of curved plywood panel segments, which are embedded with a flexible polymer film containing organic semiconductors. This film is engineered to generate electricity, with each square meter capable of producing 1 kW/hour. Furthermore, telescopic volumetric elements integrated into the structure provide an additional 5.3 kW of power, significantly contributing to the yurt's energy independence. The generated electricity is stored in batteries, ensuring a reliable power supply for household appliances and reducing reliance on external energy sources.
The design's adaptability is another key feature, allowing the small dwelling to adjust to varying environmental conditions, particularly in steppe areas. The segment extension and shifting mechanisms enable the creation of either an enclosed, protective living space or an open, expansive environment, depending on the prevailing weather.
