Want to rent art for your home? Here’s how you can do it for INR 90 a month!
Floating Canvas Company aims to democratize access to contemporary art through an art-on-subscription service, making it accessible and affordable for homes and commercial spaces. The company was co-founded by Shakti Swarup Sahu, Aagam Mehta, and Rahul Singh, who recognized the challenge of acquiring original art for many individuals. They believe that art provides a personal touch to any space and serves as a foundational element for aesthetic decisions like color palettes, textures, lighting, and furniture. While similar services exist internationally, Floating Canvas Company distinguishes itself by working directly with artists and offering services across major Indian cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.
The subscription model starts at an affordable INR 90 per month, extending up to INR 8,000, ensuring that price is not a barrier to experiencing quality art. Subscribers commit to a minimum rental period of one year, with flexible payment options available on a monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly basis. A key feature of the service is the flexibility to switch artworks: subscribers are entitled to a free artwork switch every six months during their tenure, allowing them to refresh their space with new pieces from the collection without additional charges.
For first-time subscribers or those less familiar with art selection, Floating Canvas Company offers a comprehensive 'filter' feature. This tool assists users in choosing artworks based on both practical and aesthetic criteria. Users can shortlist art by themes, styles, and types (e.g., paintings, photographs) and also refine their choices based on practical considerations such as size, budget, orientation, and the designated area within their space. The platform showcases works from a diverse group of featured artists, including Sajid Wajid Shaikh, Pratap Chalke, Pulkit Kamal, and Isha Pimpalkhare, providing subscribers with a wide array of options.
Upon selection and payment of a refundable deposit, the chosen artwork is shipped to the subscriber. The company manages warehousing, delivery, and pick-up, with customized processes designed to minimize handling and potential damages. After an artwork is returned, it undergoes a thorough quality check. In cases of damage beyond normal wear and tear, the cost of repairs is adjusted from the refundable deposit or addressed directly with the subscriber on an individual basis. This model benefits artists by offering a new avenue for monetizing their work and introducing it to a broader audience, fostering a more vibrant art ecosystem.
