A Ralph Lauren-Inspired Nashville Home You Need to See
This article highlights the transformation of a basic Tudor-style home in Nashville into a masculine, Ralph Lauren-inspired retreat by interior designer Marcelle Guilbeau. The design aimed to create a sanctuary where the client could relax and connect with loved ones, emphasizing a warm and inviting atmosphere suitable for family life and entertaining. The original home, described as 'builder basic' with a brick exterior, provided a blank canvas for Guilbeau's vision.
Marcelle Guilbeau's design approach, known as "soul style," focuses on creating spaces that resonate with a client's heart and soul. For this particular client, the soul style was identified as 'traditional' and 'sensual,' meaning an appreciation for design that engages all five senses and fosters a strong sense of family and hospitality. The designer drew inspiration from Ralph Lauren's aesthetic, incorporating a warm color palette of tans, creamy tones, sage, and rust throughout the home.
The redesign encompassed almost every room, starting with the formal dining room. While preserving the original tray ceiling, Guilbeau painted it a bronze metallic color to align with the client's aesthetic. An abstract animal print was used on the back wall, with a softer version on the sidewalls, adding a masculine yet elegant touch. The kitchen, already spacious, required minimal renovation. Changes included updating the wall color and light fixtures to enhance its inviting, warm, and cozy feel. Its open floor plan connects to an informal dining room and sunroom, making it an ideal space for entertaining, complete with a large island and marble countertop.
The living room retained its only original light fixture. Guilbeau skillfully used color to balance the space, deepening coffers and walls to create visual harmony. The room was furnished with Chesterfield sofas, two chairs featuring colorful tapestry fabrics, and an artisan rug, contributing to a timeless, classic design. The primary bedroom underwent a complete transformation with custom furnishings and decor. It features a layered look that incorporates the client's eclectic taste for the exotic, evident in the Venetian-inspired metallic plaster ceiling, a leather headboard, and custom Ralph Lauren-inspired bedding. Pendant lights sourced from Morocco and a sitting area with an Indonesian chaise lounge and wooden table further highlight the client's global collections.
The primary bathroom extends the metallic taupe color palette and artisan paint finishes from the primary bedroom. While the original shower tile remained, the wall tiles were replaced with taupe subway tiles. The original white vanities were swapped for more furniture-like wooden vanities topped with white marble counters. The most extensive renovation took place in the theater room, where a deep, mossy green Venetian plaster was applied to create a moody, Sylvan woods ambiance. Movie paraphernalia adorning the walls completes the cinematic experience. All photography for the article was provided by Gieves Anderson, showcasing the intricate details and overall ambiance of the redesigned home.
