Cellulose Panels - CFAB™ from Acoustical Surfaces

CFAB™ cellulose acoustical panels offer a sustainable and efficient solution for sound absorption and thermal treatment in various architectural applications. Composed of 65–75% recycled fibers, these panels represent an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional insulation materials. Their manufacturing process utilizes primarily post-consumer and post-industrial paper, with recycled newspaper being a key raw material, ensuring that the products are recyclable and generate no scrap during production or installation. This commitment to sustainability extends to low VOC emissions, allowing CFAB™ panels to contribute to LEED V4.1 EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials. The panels are designed for both interior walls and ceilings, providing effective control over sound reflections and reverberation, thereby deadening unwanted noise within a room. Beyond their acoustical properties, they also offer thermal insulation benefits. A significant characteristic is their resistance to mold growth, which is further enhanced by the inclusion of an EPA-registered fungicide. This feature, combined with their non-irritating and non-itching properties, contributes to a safer and healthier indoor environment. Furthermore, CFAB™ panels possess a Class A fire rating, indicating high fire safety for building insulation. Installation of CFAB™ panels is straightforward and cost-efficient, requiring no specialized equipment. They can be applied using adhesives, with pins and washers available for additional fastening where needed. The panels are versatile in application, suitable for a range of environments including industrial and mechanical facilities, breweries, and tap rooms. They can also serve as absorptive layers behind other finishes such as stretched fabric or slatted wood systems, or be integrated into spaces with an industrial or recycled aesthetic, including installation beneath furniture. Available in standard sizes of 24" x 48", and additional sizes of 12" x 12", 24" x 24", 48" x 48", and 48" x 96" (with minimum quantities applying for certain sizes), CFAB™ panels come in thicknesses of ½″, 1″, 1.5", and 2″. Color options include blue, gray, and natural recycled fibers which exhibit non-consistent coloration due to their recycled content. Their open design and density are critical to their acoustical performance, with high Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) ratings achievable based on specified density. For example, a 2-inch thick panel can achieve an NRC of 1.00, demonstrating superior sound absorption capabilities across various octave band frequencies. The physical properties of CFAB™ panels are well-documented through various test methods, confirming their acceptable performance in terms of surface burning characteristics, critical radiant flux, corrosiveness, fungal growth, thermal resistance (3.6 – 3.7 R per Inch), moisture absorption, and odor emission. These comprehensive specifications, along with available data sheets, CSI specifications for both ceiling and wall applications, and installation guides, provide architects and designers with the necessary information for informed product selection and application. BIM objects are also available to facilitate integration into design projects. Acoustical Surfaces, the manufacturer, encourages further inquiry through their website and product catalog. #AcousticPanels #CelluloseInsulation #RecycledMaterials #SustainableDesign #SoundAbsorption #ThermalInsulation #BuildingMaterials #InteriorDesign #ArchitecturalProducts #AcousticPanels #CelluloseInsulation #RecycledMaterials #SustainableDesign #SoundAbsorption #ThermalInsulation #BuildingMaterials #InteriorDesign #ArchitecturalProducts
