VyTA Restaurant by Collidanielarchitetto Brings Italian Style to London’s Covent Garden
VyTA Restaurant and cocktail bar, designed by Rome's Collidanielarchitetto for Nicolò Marzotto, redefines a grade II monument in London’s Covent Garden, paying homage to Italian craftsmanship. Situated in the West End, a district known for its bustling stalls and boutiques, this establishment occupies nearly 4,000 square feet across three levels, complemented by an additional 1,500 square feet of outdoor space. The design integrates modern Italian aesthetics with the historical context of the area.
The restaurant's interior features a striking rosewood staircase at the entrance, leading to a first floor characterized by vaulted ceilings and lacquered walls. A notable design element is the polychrome marble floor, which incorporates a diamond pattern of Carrara veined white, France red, Alps green, and Atlantis yellow marbles. This intricate flooring extends up the back wall in a dining area. Daniela Colli, founder of Collidanielarchitetto, explains that this dynamic and fluid geometric pattern, inspired by futurist painter Giacomo Balla, transforms the perception of the original fragmented spaces into intimate and fluid environments. The design utilizes over 7,000 rhombuses and half-rhombuses, creating a rhythmic interplay of colors and shapes.
Custom furnishings and materials enhance the restaurant's luxurious feel. Horo Divania sofas, upholstered in velvet and satin brass, are paired with velvet-covered Tacchini chairs. Custom tables feature Pedrali bases topped with black glass. The bar area showcases a custom design with a façade of gold metal tubes and an Alps green marble top. The back counter is crafted from extra-light stratified glass with a silver mirror milled in a diamond pattern, framed by rosewood bands. The ceiling reflects these details with satin brass sheet metal facets, mirroring the polished brass MMLampadari lighting.
An upstairs cocktail bar offers both a small north-facing terrace and a larger south-facing terrace that extends into the Covent Garden dome. This area includes a long green metal counter. Below, a 100-seat patio provides an outdoor dining experience, shaded by white Morton Parasols. This patio is furnished with custom folding chairs featuring diamond stitching and the VyTA logo, and tables topped with Alps green marble. The staircase's central partition is covered with slabs of Alps green marble, and its solid teak steps are edged in satin brass with rosewood extrados. Sconces by MMLampadari illuminate the staircase.
Throughout the restaurant, emerald green lacquered boiserie with diamond-shaped millings and satin brass details adorn the walls, contributing to the cohesive and elegant design. The renovation of this historic building demonstrates a thoughtful blend of traditional architectural elements with contemporary Italian design, creating a distinctive dining and social experience in one of London's vibrant districts.
