Alsace LA hotel interiors by Home Studios encapsulate SoCal energy
The Alsace LA hotel, located in the historic West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles, introduces a new hospitality experience to a district known for its rich architecture, vibrant dining scene, unique retail, and blossoming arts and music community. Developed by CIM Group and designed by architects NMDA Group, the hotel features interiors and custom furniture by Home Studios, reflecting a design ethos inspired by Bauhaus principles and Mediterranean architecture. The 48-room hotel aims to become a cherished fixture in West Adams, a neighborhood that, while not as widely recognized as some other areas of the city, possesses a significant cultural and historical standing.
The interior design by Home Studios emphasizes a residential-style approach, creating an evocative and sensual atmosphere that captures the eclectic essence of Los Angeles. This is achieved through a combination of white oak floors and ceilings, terracotta plaster, fluted textures, warm wood accents, and a curated mix of vintage and custom-designed furniture. The hotel's design journey begins with a Mediterranean-style portico entry, leading guests into a verdant interior courtyard that spans all three floors, allowing natural light to permeate the space.
Guest rooms are meticulously designed with handcrafted details. Larger accommodations offer the added luxury of balconies or terraces, along with custom-designed dining tables and bespoke pull-out couches. Home Studios took responsibility for many in-room elements, including the upholstered headboard panels, rattan and wood wardrobes, and sculptural brass hooks, all contributing to a unique, transporting ambiance for guests.
Downstairs, the lobby continues the hotel's distinctive aesthetic with a striking tile mural. This mural, a collaborative effort with local artist Lukas Geronimas Giniotis, draws inspiration from ancient mosaic art, featuring figures in repose and an abstracted landscape of fauna and classical architecture. The tile motifs are strategically placed to hint at the function of various public spaces within the hotel; for instance, divers are depicted near the pool exit, and figures are shown playing near the gym. This thoughtful integration of art and space enhances the narrative of the hotel's design.
Additional design elements throughout the hotel include custom-designed metal mesh and concrete tile-top tables in the courtyard, ‘Vimini’ sofas by Kettal, and ‘Bubble’ armchairs by Casa Design Group. The lobby features custom mohair sofas and coffee tables by Gubi, complemented by textile artwork from LA sculptor Molly Haynes and ceramic pieces by Morgan Peck. The meeting room showcases custom wool rugs handwoven by Moroccan artisans, vintage coffee tables, and lounge chairs by Gubi, along with photographs by LA-based photographer Pascal Shirley. Bedrooms feature custom beds and side tables, while bathrooms boast chequered terracotta tiles, verde marble mosaic floors, and green zellige ceramic tiles. The overall design creates a cohesive and immersive experience that celebrates craftsmanship and local artistry, providing a unique retreat in the heart of Los Angeles.
