A Parisian-Feeling Interior Design Studio in the Heart of Los Angeles

Tiffany Howell, founder of Night Palm Interiors, discusses her unique approach to interior design, which prioritizes the 'feel' of a space over traditional design starting points. Her background in producing and directing music videos significantly influences her current work, leading her to often begin projects by creating a playlist or drawing inspiration from fashion. For instance, she is currently designing a house based entirely on a 1970s Missoni ad campaign, using its color palette as a foundational element. Howell emphasizes that her design aesthetic often involves a 'rock-and-roll romantic' style, with approximately ninety percent of her projects incorporating vintage pieces. She describes herself as an emotional designer, focusing on the emotional impact and atmosphere of a space before diving into its aesthetics. Howell’s studio in central Los Angeles, which she had coveted for years, plays a crucial role in her creative process. The building's inherent Parisian architectural features, such as parquet wood floors, intricate molding, and wrought-iron details, provided a strong foundation. Howell enhanced these existing elements by introducing modern whimsical touches, including sculptural furniture, dedicated music and bar areas, and a carefully curated art collection. The space is intentionally designed to feel more like a comfortable living room than a typical office, fostering a creative and inspiring environment for her team. This atmosphere is further cultivated by the presence of a record player, encouraging team members to play music that inspires them. The studio serves multiple functions beyond a typical workspace; it also houses a material library for client consultations and large-scale mood boards, allowing for a highly visual and collaborative design process. Howell intentionally avoided major renovations, opting instead to focus on decor to maintain the building's original charm. She updated the lighting with chrome French-style sconces, appreciating the juxtaposition of modern and classic elements. Sourcing for her projects often involves supporting local vintage dealers in Los Angeles, complemented by purchases from online platforms like 1stDibs and Chairish, with pieces frequently reupholstered to align with her vision. The studio's art collection is a reflection of her personal taste and influences, featuring works by artists like Warhol, Newton, and Cohen, further emphasizing the blend of fashion and music that underpins her design philosophy. The building's exterior, with its beautiful tile work and European style, along with its courtyard and rooftop deck, contributes to the overall inspiring ambiance of the studio, making it a space where creativity thrives. #InteriorDesign #TiffanyHowell #NightPalmInteriors #ParisianStyle #LosAngelesDesign #VintageDecor #CreativeProcess #DesignStudio #FashionInfluence #InteriorDesign #TiffanyHowell #NightPalmInteriors #ParisianStyle #LosAngelesDesign #VintageDecor #CreativeProcess #DesignStudio #FashionInfluence
