Interior Designer Optimizes Jerry Seinfeld’s NYC Apartment Using Feng Shui Principles
Southern California interior designer Julie Khuu, in collaboration with Architectural Digest, undertook the task of visually optimizing Jerry Seinfeld's iconic Upper West Side apartment. Khuu applied her extensive interior design expertise, along with the principles of Feng Shui, to enhance the space's functionality and aesthetic appeal for the busy comedian. The project began with a focus on the dining area, then moved to the office, living room, entryway, and kitchen, all of which are integrated into a single, often constrained, space within many New York City apartments.
Khuu's analysis highlighted that while Jerry Seinfeld's apartment is iconic for fans of the sitcom 'Seinfeld,' its actual design and energy flow could be significantly improved. She aimed to address issues such as the layout, the flow between different areas, and existing design choices to create a more streamlined and energetically balanced environment. Her recommendations involved rethinking space planning, particularly for areas like the compact writing desk and the unconventionally placed kitchen, to foster better energy flow according to Feng Shui principles.
Throughout the optimization process, Khuu provided specific insights into how each section of the apartment could be redesigned. Her suggestions were geared towards maximizing both practical utility and the positive energy (qi) within the space. The objective was to transform what was depicted as a beloved bachelor pad into a more harmonious and efficient living and working area, catering to the demands of its occupant.
The final phase of Khuu's optimization concentrated on the bedroom. She expressed considerable appreciation for the existing layout of the bedroom, noting that it already incorporated several positive elements. Specifically, she approved of the bed's 'command position,' which allows a clear view of the entry door, thereby preventing negative energy (qi) from rushing in from the side. Khuu emphasized the bedroom's minimal and uncluttered design, indicating that such an arrangement contributes to a sense of calm and well-being, even without having physically experienced the space herself. Her overall approach underscored the belief that thoughtful design, informed by Feng Shui, can significantly impact an individual's comfort and productivity within their home.
