HGTV's Jenn Todryk Shares Her Tips To Easily Decorate A Wall With 3D Paneling

HGTV's Jenn Todryk, from "No Demo Reno," offers two distinct methods for decorating walls featuring three-dimensional paneling, addressing a common design challenge for homeowners. Wall paneling, by its nature, adds visual depth and texture to a room. While decorative on its own, many individuals still wish to integrate artwork or other decorative elements with 3D walls, which can be complex due to the varying surfaces. Todryk's first approach, as detailed on her Instagram, focuses on utilizing the existing gaps within the 3D paneling. She advises finding picture frames that precisely fit into these spaces, aligning them with the paneling's lines. In one instance, she centered a dresser on a paneling gap and then positioned framed photos within that gap, ensuring the spacing between the frame edges and the paneling, as well as the vertical spacing between photos, was consistent. This method creates a cohesive and balanced aesthetic, with the paneling effectively acting as an extension of the artwork's framing. The key to this technique is careful measurement to ensure that the chosen decor complements the paneling's inherent structure, making the entire display appear intentionally integrated. The second method Todryk proposes is to "go oversized" when the gaps in the paneling are not conducive to smaller, fitted pieces. This involves placing large, chunky art pieces directly over the 3D panels, rather than attempting to fit them within specific sections. In this scenario, the three-dimensional lines of the paneling, even when partially obscured by the art, contribute to the piece's visual impact by adding an underlying layer of texture and dimension. This approach offers more flexibility as it doesn't require precise alignment with the paneling's subdivisions, allowing for bolder decorative statements. When working with 3D wall designs, Todryk emphasizes that while placing oversized art over panels is generally straightforward, one should still consider how the paneling's lines will interact with the artwork. For the first method, which involves working within the paneling's confines, greater consideration is needed. Different types of 3D paneling, such as picture-frame molding or board and batten, create distinct geometric shapes on the wall. Picture-frame molding typically forms larger sections suitable for bigger art pieces, while the symmetrical nature of board and batten lends itself well to displaying collections of smaller items within each square. Painting the raised parts of the paneling a contrasting color can further enhance the framing effect, drawing the eye to the art. Regardless of the paneling type, precise measurement of the gaps is crucial to selecting the appropriate artwork size, ensuring a harmonious and well-thought-out design. #JennTodryk #HGTV #NoDemoReno #WallPanelIng #3DWalls #HomeDecor #InteriorDesignTips #ArtworkDisplay #DIYHomeDecor #JennTodryk #HGTV #NoDemoReno #WallPanelIng #3DWalls #HomeDecor #InteriorDesignTips #ArtworkDisplay #DIYHomeDecor
