6 narrow entryway ideas design experts love using in awkward spaces

Decorating a narrow entryway can be challenging due to limited space and potential for darkness. However, design experts offer several strategies to transform these awkward areas into stylish and functional spaces. One key recommendation is to utilize lighter colors for walls and floors. Interior designer Daniella Menachemson suggests painting walls in shades like white and beige, as these colors reflect natural light and create the illusion of a larger, brighter space. This approach also provides a versatile base for further decoration, making the entryway feel fresh and open. Clutter management is another critical aspect of narrow entryway design. Karen Parziale, an interior designer at The Staging Studio, emphasizes the importance of keeping the area free of clutter. She notes that homeowners often make the mistake of leaving shoes, umbrellas, and other items in the entryway, which makes the space appear even smaller. Instead, she advises storing these items elsewhere or using stylish storage solutions like wicker baskets to keep things neatly organized and out of sight, thereby maintaining a clean and spacious feel. Mirrors are powerful tools for enhancing narrow entryways. Parziale highlights that mirrors can visually expand a small space by reflecting light and creating depth. Whether choosing a full-length mirror for a complete outfit check or a smaller circular mirror for a quick face check, mirrors serve both functional and aesthetic purposes, making the entryway feel larger and more inviting. Introducing a runner rug is an effective way to add personality and warmth. Jonathan Faccone, founder of HALO Homebuyers, recommends using bold and vibrant runner rugs to draw the eye to the floor and distract from the narrowness of the space. He suggests experimenting with patterns, colors, and textures to create visual interest. However, it's crucial to select rugs that are not too thick to prevent tripping hazards. Changing the flooring with characterful tiles can also significantly impact the entryway's vibe. Faccone notes that graphic floor tiles can create an illusion of depth and add character, particularly in smaller spaces. He advises choosing tiles with bold patterns or geometric shapes while keeping the rest of the decor neutral to avoid overwhelming the eye, ensuring a cohesive and balanced design. Finally, emphasizing vertical lines is a clever trick to elongate the space visually. Menachemson suggests incorporating wall hooks, slim shelves, or artwork arranged vertically to draw attention upwards. This strategy maximizes vertical space, especially when square footage is limited, and can be achieved with mounted solutions like small space bookshelves, even using damage-free methods like Command strips. These techniques collectively help to disguise the narrowness and create a more appealing and functional entryway. #NarrowEntrywayIdeas #SmallSpaceDesign #HomeDecor #InteriorDesignTips #ClutterManagement #MirrorsForSmallSpaces #RunnerRugs #TileFlooring #VerticalStorage #LightColors #NarrowEntrywayIdeas #SmallSpaceDesign #HomeDecor #InteriorDesignTips #ClutterManagement #MirrorsForSmallSpaces #RunnerRugs #TileFlooring #VerticalStorage #LightColors
