Newstalgia flooring collection puts nostalgic twist on 1970s and 80s fabric

Teklan Studio, led by designer Tekla Evelina Severin, has unveiled the "Newstalgia" flooring collection for Italian carpet brand Radici. This textile collection aims to reimagine the elaborate patterns and vibrant aesthetics of the 1970s and 1980s, offering a fresh perspective on nostalgic design for contemporary living. The collection has earned recognition by being longlisted in the textile design category of the Dezeen Awards 2025. The Newstalgia collection features eight distinct geometric patterns, each characterized by a playful manipulation of color and proportion. Severin's signature design approach is evident in the unconventional color pairings, which include combinations such as peach and black with burgundy and baby blue. The designer describes Newstalgia as a "love letter to the atmospheres of the past," emphasizing its dual focus on reinventing historical design elements for present-day applications and ensuring its adaptability for future architectural and interior design projects. Severin highlights the collection's flexibility, stating that its scale and color palettes are intended to be customizable to meet the specific requirements of architects and the unique premises of projects in upcoming decades. This forward-thinking design philosophy underscores the collection's potential for longevity and versatility within the evolving design landscape. The carpets are prototyped on Radici's Bloom Back textile flooring, a custom-printed base that plays a crucial role in the collection's sustainable credentials. The Bloom Back base is manufactured using Econyl yarn, a regenerated nylon-based fabric. This material is derived from industrial waste sources, including fabric scraps and discarded fishing nets, illustrating a commitment to circular economy principles. Radici emphasizes that Bloom Back is not only lightweight and soft but also possesses acoustic properties, making it an appropriate choice for high-end contract and hospitality environments. Severin reinforces the environmental benefits of the material, noting that its "regenerated to be regenerable approach is a perfect example of circular economy in action." This commitment to sustainability, combined with the collection's aesthetic appeal, positions Newstalgia as a significant contribution to both design innovation and environmental responsibility in the flooring industry. #FlooringDesign #TextileDesign #NostalgicDesign #GeometricPatterns #InteriorDesign #SustainableDesign #CircularEconomy #RadiciCarpets #TeklanStudio #FlooringDesign #TextileDesign #NostalgicDesign #GeometricPatterns #InteriorDesign #SustainableDesign #CircularEconomy #RadiciCarpets #TeklanStudio
