Narwal Freo Is an Obsessively Clean Smart Robot Vacuum
The Narwal Freo represents a significant evolution in smart cleaning devices, building upon the success of its predecessor, the Narwal T10. While the T10 was an impressive dual vacuum and mop robot praised for its functionality, quiet operation, and distinctive design, the Freo introduces a range of software, sensor, and hardware enhancements to maintain its position at the forefront of the robot vacuum category.
Outwardly, the Narwal Freo maintains a design lineage similar to the T10, featuring a rounded, futuristic aesthetic that evokes Pixar’s WALL-E character EVE. However, subtle physical changes include an upgraded and relocated LCD Touch Display on the base, now positioned to the right. This bright, legible, and responsive screen allows for direct operation without needing the app, though the intuitive Narwal app remains the primary interface for scheduling, custom mapping, room division, and accessing detailed reports. The base station also retains the wide bay for the vacuum's entry and exit, facilitating recharging and self-cleaning cycles between operations.
Internally, the Freo boasts a notable improvement in suction power, increasing from the T10's 1,800 Pa to an impressive 3,000 Pa. This enhanced suction capability ensures a more thorough cleaning, especially adept at handling stubborn debris found along edges where different flooring types meet. Complementing this, the dust bin capacity has been increased to 480ml, allowing for longer cleaning sessions before needing to be emptied.
The most significant advancements in the Narwal Freo are its algorithmic and sensory upgrades. The device is engineered with advanced sensors, including time-of-flight, LIDAR Navigation, LSD Laser mapping algorithms, and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), to better detect and avoid obstacles while meticulously cleaning. The Freo can automatically switch between dry vacuuming and wet mopping based on detected surface types. A key innovation is its "Dirtsense" technology, which allows the vacuum to continuously assess the cleanliness of a surface and perform multiple passes until it registers as truly clean, even if it appears clean to the human eye. This thoroughness, while potentially extending cleaning times in "Freo Mode," ensures impeccably cleaned floors. The system is particularly efficient when programmed for automated cleaning during unoccupied hours.
The Freo also features heated dual air tunnels that dry cleaned surfaces and mop heads at 40℃/104°F. This serves to inhibit bacterial growth and expedite drying times for the floors and the mop pads, prolonging their lifespan. Despite its increased power and advanced features, the Narwal Freo maintains the quiet operation of its predecessor, registering as low as 39dB on its quietest setting and averaging less than 55dB during vacuuming or 51dB during mopping, making it suitable for use in homes where occupants are present or working from home. The heated air drying mode operates at an even quieter 43dB.
Overall, the Narwal Freo mimics and enhances human cleaning habits by utilizing advanced sensor technology to ensure a higher degree of accuracy and thoroughness in home maintenance. It represents a sophisticated solution for automated floor care.
