'90s Wallpaper Trends We're Bringing Back

The article explores the resurgence of several wallpaper trends popular in the 1990s, noting how these nostalgic styles are being reinterpreted for contemporary interiors. Hannah Reach, brand manager for WallPops, highlights a growing demand for patterns reminiscent of her childhood, including soft pastels, delicate florals, and classic stripes. The piece features insights from interior designer Vamsha Shetty of Saffron Interiors and Amanda Both, design director at Tempaper & Co., who offer guidance on incorporating these revived trends into modern home decor. One prominent trend making a comeback is cottage chic florals. While pastel-heavy designs were traditional in the '90s, contemporary versions feature updated color palettes and varying scales, although pastel florals are also seeing a renewed interest. Experts suggest pairing these floral prints with sleek, modern furnishings and neutral accents to prevent them from looking dated. Wallpaper borders, previously associated with kitsch designs, are re-emerging with a more sophisticated approach. Instead of themed borders, designers are now opting for tone-on-tone monochromatic patterns. These are used sparingly, often above picture rails, framing ceilings, or as architectural accents, providing visual interest without overpowering the space. Wicker and caning-inspired patterns are also gaining traction. These textures, which were common in '90s furniture, are now appearing in wallpaper designs, mimicking natural materials. This trend extends beyond walls, with suggestions to use peel-and-stick wallpaper featuring these textures on furniture pieces like the backs of bookcases. Bold metallics, particularly gold and silver accents, are returning to interiors through wallpaper. Unlike the more overt glam of the '90s, current metallic wallpapers incorporate texture and are used with restraint, often as subtle foil details. This trend is popular in powder rooms, where metallic wallpapers are paired with brass fixtures to create a refined look. Graphic geometrics, influenced by the Memphis style of the '80s and early '90s, are also making a return. While primary colors were once dominant, today's geometric patterns feature neutral color palettes in designs such as checkerboard prints and stripes. These patterns offer a fresh and stylish feel when mixed with minimalist decor elements, achieving a balanced aesthetic. Finally, moody jewel tones, a staple of '90s decor, are being reinterpreted with richer and more curated aesthetics. Deep, saturated hues like sapphire, emerald, and plum are used in wallpapers to create dramatic and cozy spaces. The article collectively demonstrates how these '90s trends are being reimagined with modern twists, allowing for a contemporary yet nostalgic feel in home interiors. #90sTrends #Wallpaper #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #CottageChic #FloralPatterns #MetallicAccents #GeometricPrints #JewelTones #90sTrends #Wallpaper #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #CottageChic #FloralPatterns #MetallicAccents #GeometricPrints #JewelTones
