Why Everyone's Suddenly Filtering Their Bathwater (& You Should, Too)

This article details a personal review of the newly launched Canopy Bath Tub Filter, a product designed to purify bathwater by removing various contaminants. The author, a self-proclaimed bath enthusiast, had previously stopped taking baths due to concerns about tap water quality in her 1940s New York City apartment building. She highlights the presence of disinfectants like chlorine, potential lead from old piping, and pervasive PFAS or "forever chemicals" in U.S. tap water, all linked to negative health impacts such as increased cancer risk, altered metabolism, and reduced immune function. These concerns led her to avoid bathing until the introduction of the Canopy Bath Tub Filter. The review explains the filter's three-step filtration process. Activated carbon utilizes microscopic pores to trap contaminants, including some PFAS, depending on water pressure and chemical composition. Calcium sulfite reacts with chlorine and chloramines, converting them into harmless chloride ions and neutralizing 99% of chlorine. KDF-55, a copper-zinc alloy, employs a redox reaction to trap heavy metals and inhibit microbial growth. Water passes through these filtration stages after entering through a BPA-free silicone spout before filling the tub. The author praises several aspects of the filter. Its installation is noted as remarkably easy and tool-free, taking less than 20 seconds. The kit includes three stretchy silicone bands for a snug fit on various spout sizes, ensuring no leaks. The filter comes in five color options (white, butter, jade, lavender, and oat), allowing for aesthetic integration into different bathroom styles, and is considered suitable for both adults and children due to its muted color palette. Importantly, the filter does not negatively impact water pressure, with tub-filling times remaining consistent with unfiltered water. Another significant benefit mentioned is the improvement in skin health. The author states that chlorine can damage the skin barrier, leading to dryness and irritation, but with the filter, her skin felt soft and nourished after baths. A subtle, yet appreciated, feature is the water temperature indicator, which changes from gray to red when the water is hot, eliminating the need to manually check the temperature. Maintenance is also highlighted as simple, with the silicone being dishwasher-safe and the spout cover having built-in ventilation and an antimicrobial coating to prevent mold and mildew. The water filter cartridge needs replacement every 90 days, a process that can be done without removing the spout cover. Despite the many advantages, the author notes two minor drawbacks. The filter's profile is considered somewhat bulky, a necessary design choice to accommodate various spout sizes, which the author admits is a nitpicky observation. Additionally, the filter is made of silicone. While more durable than plastic, early research suggests silicone can still release nanoplastics under certain conditions and is difficult to recycle, which might deter some environmentally conscious consumers. Ultimately, the article concludes that the Canopy Bath Tub Filter has successfully allowed the author to resume her beloved bathing ritual, providing contaminant-free water that benefits both skin and overall health, and offering an affordable solution for families. #CanopyBathTubFilter #WaterFiltration #CleanBathing #SkinHealth #HomeWellness #ProductReview #ContaminantRemoval #SiliconeProduct #PFAS #CanopyBathTubFilter #WaterFiltration #CleanBathing #SkinHealth #HomeWellness #ProductReview #ContaminantRemoval #SiliconeProduct #PFAS
