Vivint Spotlight Pro Security Camera Review

The Vivint Spotlight Pro Security Camera is a new smart home security device that combines a floodlight and a spotlight, offering advanced features for outdoor security. This system integrates Vivint’s Outdoor Camera Pro (Gen 2) with an upgraded image sensor and a specialized lighting accessory. A key innovation is the computer vision chip, which enables the camera to detect individuals lingering outside a home and follow them with a spotlight, similar to stage lighting, to deter potential intruders. Key specifications of the Vivint Spotlight Pro include a 140-degree field of view, night vision capabilities, and continuous 24/7 video recording stored on an encrypted on-camera SD card. The device holds an IP65 weatherproof rating, making it suitable for outdoor use. Its lighting system provides a 25-180 degree radius, a lighting range of up to 25 feet, and can produce up to 1800 lumens with a 5000k color temperature. The camera is wire-powered via a Power over Ethernet (PoE) adapter, which ensures both power and internet connectivity (up to 2G wireless) for live video transmission, even during Wi-Fi outages. This PoE setup requires indoor installation of the adapter, necessitating professional installation. Like other Vivint security products, the Spotlight Pro features a two-way audio system (speaker and microphone) for communication or deterrence. It integrates with the Vivint app, available for iOS and Android, allowing users to manage notifications, view recordings, adjust audio settings, and define detection zones. Users can customize light brightness and set tones for motion detection events. A notable feature is the Smart Deters technology, which uses the camera's image sensor and lights to identify and track unwanted visitors, activating attention-grabbing lighting effects as they move across the property. This technology is designed to effectively deter suspicious activity. Installation of the Vivint Spotlight Pro is exclusively professional due to the wired PoE connection, which involves drilling through exterior walls to place the adapter indoors. The professional installation ensures proper setup and integration with an existing Vivint Smart Home system. The product costs $249.99, aligning with the price range of high-end floodlight and spotlight cameras like the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro. However, it requires a monthly service plan for video storage and monitoring. During extensive testing, initial challenges included calibration issues, where the camera's lights blinked continuously for several days, and performance problems stemming from camera placement. Installing the camera above a bay window caused glare and false activations of the deter technology due to reflections. Adjusting the camera angle and sensitivity levels was necessary to resolve these issues. Motion detection proved highly sensitive, sometimes triggering alerts for raindrops or small animals at night. After optimization, the deter technology functioned effectively, with the spotlight successfully following individuals. Vivint’s smart home ecosystem is robust, utilizing a Z-Wave connection for various smart devices including door/window sensors, motion detectors, CO2/smoke alarms, and car security devices. The system is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as other Z-Wave devices such as smart lights (e.g., Philips Hue) and smart locks (e.g., Yale Assure Lock 2). The Vivint Spotlight Pro integrates seamlessly into this ecosystem, enhancing overall home security. Unlike many DIY-installed floodlight cameras from brands like Ring, Google, Wyze, and Blink, the Vivint Spotlight Pro offers a professionally installed and monitored solution. It is particularly suited for individuals who already have or plan to invest in a Vivint Smart Home system and seek an advanced outdoor security camera with innovative lighting and deterrence capabilities. While the Vivint system is generally considered expensive due to required service plans, its comprehensive and trustworthy security features justify the investment for protecting a home. #VivintSpotlightPro #SmartHomeSecurity #FloodlightCamera #SpotlightCamera #VivintSmartHome #ProfessionalInstallation #OutdoorSecurity #SmartDetersTechnology #HomeAutomation #VivintSpotlightPro #SmartHomeSecurity #FloodlightCamera #SpotlightCamera #VivintSmartHome #ProfessionalInstallation #OutdoorSecurity #SmartDetersTechnology #HomeAutomation
