Tokblind Motorized Blackout Roller Shade (Fabric Wrapped) review

The Tokblind Motorized Blackout Roller Shade is a made-to-order window treatment designed to block 100% of natural light. These shades feature a motor with a built-in rechargeable battery that can last up to six months on a single charge. The shades can be controlled via an included remote control or through voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant, provided an optional RF hub is purchased. The product package includes the blackout roller shade with a valance, a single-channel remote control with a mounting bracket, three mounting brackets and hardware, a 78-inch USB charging cable, a Broadlink smart hub, and two user manuals. The shade comes fully assembled, with the valance and bottom rod wrapped in fabric that matches the shade, ensuring a cohesive and aesthetic appearance. Multiple color options are available, such as beige, dark coffee, and light grey; fabric samples can be purchased and are refundable upon shade purchase. The shades are constructed from 100% blackout polyester fabric, offering light blocking, noise reduction, UV protection, and privacy. Customers can specify the motor's position (right or left) during the ordering process to suit their power outlet locations. The motor unit includes a charging port, a reset button, and an LED indicator light. Installation is simplified with options for inside or outside mounting. The outside mounting method involves attaching metal brackets to the wall and then clipping the valance into place, facilitated by plastic spring-loaded mechanisms. The single-channel remote control has three buttons for up, stop, and down movements, powered by two AAA batteries. It can be programmed to adjust running speed, set top and bottom limit positions, and a favorite running position, though the programming sequence is somewhat complex. A 15-channel remote is available for controlling multiple shades individually. The optional smart hub allows control through the Broadlink app, available on iOS and Android. The app provides a virtual remote and enables the creation of routines. However, the smart hub's performance and voice control with Alexa can be inconsistent, potentially due to internet connectivity issues. For optimal performance, a strong internet connection and close proximity between the hub and router are recommended. The shades arrive preprogrammed for immediate use, with an initial 10-hour charging period recommended. Performance tests indicate that the Tokblind Motorized Blackout Roller Shade effectively blocks all outside light, with minimal light seepage only at the edges. The product's main advantages include ease of installation, high-quality construction, attractive appearance, and effective light blocking. Areas for improvement include simplifying remote programming and updating the charging port to USB-C. The product can also be relatively expensive, especially for multiple units. The shades are priced at $149.99, with the optional hub costing $49.
