The 11 Best Places to Buy Blinds Online for Fresher Window Treatments

Blinds play a significant role in enhancing the privacy, texture, and warmth of various rooms within a home. Unlike traditional flimsy metal blinds, the market now offers a wide array of sophisticated options that can be conveniently delivered directly to consumers. Many reputable retailers provide services such as free in-home consultations with design experts who assist in accurate measurements and style selection. These retailers also offer extensive customization options for bespoke solutions, while others focus on a broad selection of pre-cut blinds made from materials like wood, linen, vinyl, and bamboo, including blackout varieties, facilitating quicker delivery and DIY installation. Custom blinds typically incur higher costs compared to standard, pre-cut options, with prices starting around $35. Prior to making a purchase, measuring windows accurately is crucial to determine whether a custom fit is necessary. Several online retailers stand out for their blind offerings. SelectBlinds is highlighted for its extensive custom choices, user-friendly website, and helpful guides for customization decisions and installation. They offer up to 15 free samples daily, free five-day shipping after production, and a 90-day return policy for defects, though custom items are generally non-returnable. A 'guarantee fit' option is available for an additional cost, allowing size adjustments to be made smaller if needed. Blinds.com provides a wide selection, easy navigation, and professional installation services for an added fee, along with a 14-day price guarantee and live chat support. However, they limit samples to 10 per customer. Pottery Barn is recognized for its trendy linen and cotton options, free design appointments, and installation video tutorials, but custom selections are non-returnable. The Home Depot, a major home improvement retailer, offers a vast selection from designer brands like Bali, alongside professional installation and virtual design consultations. They also provide financing options and a 90-day return window for most merchandise, though custom blinds have stricter return policies. Amazon is noted for its wide variety of brands, extensive customer reviews, and quick shipping, though professional installation is not offered directly through the platform. Wayfair, a popular home goods destination, features thousands of window treatment options with transparent ratings, free shipping over $35, and professional installation starting at $70. A limitation is the inability to filter by brand. Lowe's offers both custom and non-custom blinds, including options from brands like Levolor, with free standard shipping for orders over $45. Their pricing for installation services is less transparent, requiring personal information for a quote. IKEA is presented as an affordable option for basic and essential blinds, with prices starting as low as $35 and free shipping over $50, making it suitable for budget-conscious shoppers, though it lacks custom options and professional installation services. The Shade Store caters to those seeking mid-range to high-end blinds, featuring exclusive designer collections, free swatches, and complimentary in-home measurements, but does not accept returns. Hunter Douglas specializes in bespoke, luxurious blinds for large-scale windows and doors, offering extensive customization and smart shade automation, but purchases must be made through a dealer rather than directly online. Lastly, Blinds To Go, with its 70 years of experience, offers free in-home design services, free sample kits, and a lifetime warranty on custom-made blinds, but also has a no-returns policy and some styles are not available online. Key considerations when buying blinds online include the selection available, especially regarding texture, privacy, and light filtration. Texture, derived from wood or woven fabrics, can significantly influence a room's aesthetic. Privacy and light control are paramount, with wider weaves allowing more light and tighter weaves or thicker materials providing blackout capabilities. Motorization, offering remote control functionality, has become increasingly popular due to technological advancements. Corded and cordless designs are also important, with cordless options favored for safety and a tidier appearance. The variety of materials and colors, such as modern wood blinds in neutral tones, should also be factored in. Furthermore, professional installation and measurements are highly recommended due to the precision required, with many retailers offering consultation and measurement services to prevent errors. Ordering samples is a crucial step to assess material look and feel in the intended space.
