Refreshed Refined Spaces | Myrtle Beach, SC
This article showcases six distinct home and condo renovation projects along the Grand Strand, each offering unique design approaches and functional upgrades. The first feature is Kevin Connelly's Garden City Beach home, which underwent an extensive overhaul by Lance Griffith of CHD Interiors. The five-bedroom, five-bath property, previously owned by Griffith, was updated to prepare it for the next two decades, involving structural changes, new utilities, and a coastal-inspired color palette that mirrors the surrounding environment. The renovation included two kitchens, two refrigerators, and a dining area for up to a dozen people, with a focus on creating general appeal and sophisticated coastal aesthetics. Separate gathering areas for adults and teenagers were incorporated to maximize functionality for large groups or families. Griffith's favorite room is the downstairs den, which features original pecky cypress paneling and offers views of the ocean jetties.
The second project highlights David Haught's North Myrtle Beach condo, transformed by Sherry Gustafson at Saltwater Grande. The three-bedroom, two-bath unit was redesigned to enhance its appeal as a vacation rental, with the primary goal of increasing revenue. The renovation included replacing outdated furniture, installing durable LVP flooring, and introducing a distinctive deep turquoise feature wall in the dining room. Teal and blue accents, complemented by coral pops, were integrated throughout the living area and bedrooms, creating a cohesive and appealing coastal design that stands out to potential renters.
Glenn and Jennifer Hall's home in Barefoot Resort draws inspiration from Palm Beach, Florida, their preferred vacation spot. Designer Anitta Martin of J&K; Home Furnishings assisted in bringing this vision to life, transforming the interior from a dark, leather-heavy aesthetic to a vibrant, fun, and colorful space. The makeover encompassed new furniture, appliances, fixtures, and bedding. The design incorporated marine blues, tropical wallpaper, a shell chandelier, and a hand-painted seascape mural by local artist Ruth Cox. Custom-made draperies and bird-themed decor, including painted heron artworks, further personalize the home and reflect Jennifer Hall's preferences.
Ed Verville and Stephanie Welch's creekfront home in Murrells Inlet was designed with the assistance of Susan White and Stephanie Alston from Classic Home Building. The couple aimed to maximize the marsh views, integrating ample natural light throughout the house. Architectural elements such as a coffered ceiling in the great room and a rustic stacked stone wall with a hearth were incorporated. Darker charcoal cabinetry in the kitchen provides a contrast to the light-filled spaces. The property includes extensive outdoor amenities, such as a private dock, an outdoor pool, and a second-floor porch with a custom swing, allowing the owners to enjoy the serene waterfront environment.
Pat and Rose Zarcone's custom home in Waterway Palms, designed by Dawol Homes, was created to accommodate their family of four after more than two decades in their previous residence. The design emphasizes open spaces, featuring a massive kitchen island overlooking the great room with coffered ceilings and a shiplap hearth. A butler's pantry connects the dining room and kitchen, providing practical space for entertaining. The second story offers individual living areas for their children, including a princess suite for their daughter and a self-contained apartment-like space over the garage for their eldest son. The exterior boasts a courtyard oasis with a small pool, patio, gourmet outdoor kitchen, and a climate-controlled breezeway.
The final project details the extensive remodel of Al and Terri Nardslico's oceanfront home in Myrtle Beach, originally built in 1992 for General James Hackler. CRG Companies undertook the renovation, preserving the original footprint and modern style while addressing structural issues and updating the design. The remodel enhanced ocean views through the addition of a cupola and a second-floor observation deck. The interior features include metal artwork in the entryway, a custom-made front door, a solid walnut staircase wrapping around a live tree, and a stacked stone fireplace. The home integrates luxury design with high technology, from the gourmet kitchen to a sophisticated home theater system.
