Pro Audio Technology's SR-2408iw Loudspeakers Deliver Big Sound in Tight Quarters – CEDIA 2022
Pro Audio Technology, a prominent provider of high-output loudspeakers, subwoofers, and DSP loudspeaker controllers, introduced the SR-2408iw, a thin-profile, high-output loudspeaker. This new product is designed for in-wall and in-ceiling installations where space constraints are significant but high-fidelity audio performance is critical. The SR-2408iw is suitable for both retrofit and new construction projects, offering high output and versatility within its slim 4-inch depth and all-aluminum construction. This makes it an ideal solution for luxury home theaters, commercial establishments, and even marine applications like yachts.
The loudspeaker can serve multiple roles within an audio setup, functioning as a main, side, rear, or surround speaker, as well as height channel speakers for immersive audio formats such as Dolby Atmos. Its construction ensures durability and suitability for diverse environments, including those with challenging conditions, as highlighted by Pro Audio Technology President and Product Designer, Paul Hales. He noted that the all-aluminum build makes the speaker particularly resilient in harsh environments like those found on yachts, while also facilitating impressive fidelity and output despite its compact 3.5-inch internal depth.
Key features of the SR-2408iw include a tri-amplified, sealed cabinet design incorporating a 1.5-inch ring radiator tweeter, two high-efficiency 4-inch midrange drivers, and an 8-inch long-throw woofer. The speaker offers flexible sound aiming capabilities with two waveguide options: a 0-degree straight-firing axisymmetric configuration or a 40-degree asymmetric waveguide. The latter allows sound to be directed precisely towards the main listening position, even when the speaker is mounted flush in a standard 2 x 4-inch wall. This angled waveguide is particularly beneficial in confined spaces, such as residential rooms or yachts, where traditional speaker placement for optimal sound can be challenging.
For more expansive installations, an optional pivot bracket is available, enabling installers to surface-mount the SR-2408iw and accurately aim it towards a specific listening area. Despite its shallow 4-inch cabinet depth, the speaker boasts a broad frequency response ranging from 45Hz to 22kHz. An optional, paintable perforated metal grille is also available, allowing for seamless integration into various interior designs.
Technical specifications detail an impedance of 8ohms for the low frequency (LF), 4ohms for the mid-frequency (MF), and 8ohms for the high frequency (HF). The sensitivity ratings are 92dB LF, 98dB MF, 108dB HF, and 110dB HF for the 40-degree configuration. It is designed for tri-amplification, supporting a maximum peak SPL of 119dB. Power handling capacities are 500W LF, 400W MF, and 120W HF, with recommended amplifier power ranges of 250W–1000W for LF, 125W–500W for MF, and 125W for HF. The speaker connects via Euroblock terminals and weighs 18 lbs. The cutout dimensions are 10.25 x 26.375 inches, and the grille measures 11.6 x 27.6 x 0.18 inches. The grille is offered in white and is paintable.
The SR-2408iw is accessible to consumers through authorized US and international distributors. Prospective buyers can contact Mark Goldman, Pro Audio Technology’s VP of sales, for detailed pricing and availability information.
