Our Colorado Cabin Renovation Took Just 30 Days and $34,000

This blog post details the accelerated renovation of a Colorado cabin, completed in just 30 days with a budget of $34,000. Sarah and Hunter Lawrence, a photography couple, collaborated with a contractor and friends to achieve this rapid transformation. The couple actively participated in the demolition phase and other small tasks to manage costs. Their renovation strategy focused on carefully deciding where to splurge and where to save on materials and finishes. Key savings were achieved in several areas. For the farmhouse sink, instead of purchasing a $1,500 Shaws Original, they opted for a similar-looking, more affordable option from Home Depot, saving $1,000. Custom cabinetry costs were reduced by repurposing, such as tearing out old cabinets for the new sink but using a linen curtain from Target to cover the open space, providing a European aesthetic. They also saved by replacing upper cabinets with floating shelves, avoiding a full backsplash, and not enclosing the kitchen hood. For the ceiling, they chose shiplap MDF over real wood planks, reducing costs by 60% and spending only $500 instead of an estimated $1,300, while still achieving the desired look. In the bathroom, a unique cost-saving measure was transforming an $800 antique table into a vanity, combined with a $380 sink from All Modern, rather than spending $1,800 on custom floating wood pieces. Conversely, the couple decided to splurge on specific elements to enhance the cabin's aesthetic and functionality. They invested in two aged brass Ionian faucets from DeVol Kitchens, costing $750 each, which were a top priority on their wish list. Paint was another area of significant investment; they used Portola Paints' Roman Clay for a natural, weathered finish in the primary and guest bedrooms, and high-quality Benjamin Moore paints for other areas. Specifically, they used Benjamin Moore's White Dove in a matte finish for the living room and kitchen, and Gargoyle for doors and trim, preferring a matte finish to avoid scuffing. For the kitchen hardware, despite not altering the kitchen's footprint significantly (saving $3,000 in electrical expenses), they chose DeVol's aged brass handles, which retail for $75 each, to elevate the space's detailing. The renovation highlights the effectiveness of strategic planning, DIY contributions, and discerning choices between high-end and budget-friendly options to complete a significant home transformation within a tight timeframe and budget. The couple also plans future outdoor additions, including landscaping, a greenhouse, and a sauna. #CabinRenovation #BudgetRenovation #BeforeAndAfter #DIYHomeProjects #InteriorDesign #CostSavingTips #HomeImprovement #KitchenRenovation #BathroomRenovation #CabinRenovation #BudgetRenovation #BeforeAndAfter #DIYHomeProjects #InteriorDesign #CostSavingTips #HomeImprovement #KitchenRenovation #BathroomRenovation
