Meet Kyra Albarracin
Kyra Albarracin, founder of Keeks Corner, shares her journey and insights into establishing a plant styling and home decor business that distinguishes itself by focusing on education and curated aesthetics. Her mission involves teaching proper plant care, especially for semi-arid plants like succulents and cacti, which require specific adaptation to humid environments like Miami. Beyond selling plant arrangements, Kyra has a keen interest in home decor, particularly handcrafted, unique, and stylish pieces. Her brand, Keeks Corner, aims to integrate biophilic design with modern built environments, bringing warmth, style, and well-being into homes through thoughtfully curated indoor and outdoor spaces.
The genesis of Keeks Corner began in 2016 when Kyra moved back to Miami and sought to create a serene living space. Her exploration led her to a local succulent nursery, where she was captivated by the diverse colors and varieties of succulents. This initial fascination quickly evolved into a passion, leading her to create numerous arrangements for her own home. As her home filled with plants, she started sharing her creations with friends and family, receiving significant praise and requests. This positive feedback inspired her to transform her hobby into a business, launching Keeks Corner as an Instagram page in the summer of 2020. What started as a side hustle has since become a full-time venture, with plans for expansion beyond Miami, Florida.
A significant turning point for Kyra involved pivoting from her corporate career. She recognized a lack of fulfillment in her previous job despite the valuable knowledge and experience it provided. Taking a leap of faith, she embarked on a six-week trip through Mexico, focusing on personal growth and exploring new opportunities for her business. This journey proved transformative, fostering new relationships, enhancing her self-perception, and helping her find comfort in unfamiliar situations. This experience solidified her determination to fully commit to Keeks Corner.
Now, with more time dedicated to her business, Kyra is leveraging her organizational skills and discipline to drive growth. She is actively seeking new opportunities, including a co-hosted event in September at the Graffiti Art Museum in Wynwood with fellow plant curator “Plant The Jungle.” This event aims to merge the graffiti art scene with plant collecting, showcasing biophilic design within Miami's urban landscape. Kyra emphasizes the freedom and potential that come with being her own boss, expressing excitement for the future strides her company will make. She encourages others to suggest stories of individuals deserving recognition, reinforcing the community-driven aspect of her platform.
