How Leanne Ford Is Keeping Her Kitchen Reno Moving Along During Quarantine

The article details Leanne Ford's personal experience renovating her kitchen in a Los Angeles cabin during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the kitchen was in a state of disarray, functioning with makeshift solutions like a laundry tub as a sink and a wobbly dishwasher hidden by a blanket. Ford had ambitious plans for the renovation, but the pandemic introduced unexpected challenges, particularly with restrictions on having contractors on-site despite construction being deemed an essential service in California. Faced with these limitations, Ford decided to take an active, hands-on approach to the renovation. Her Lauren Liess-designed cabinets arrived ahead of schedule, prompting her to unpack and begin configuring them herself. This situation led to a significant shift in her original plans, particularly regarding the kitchen's sink layout. The initial design included only one main sink overlooking the dining area and backyard, necessitating the removal of the existing makeshift corner sink. However, Ford reconsidered, deciding it was more practical and cost-effective to incorporate a second sink, especially since plumbing for it was already in place. This decision involved extensive measuring and reconfiguring to accommodate a 30-inch basin in the corner. Ford compared the cabinet assembly process to building with heavy Legos, highlighting the iterative and experimental nature of her work. Despite the cabinets being designed for specific placements, she engaged in repeated adjustments and rearrangements, demonstrating a flexible and creative approach to design. Her husband and sister-in-law assisted her in this process. The absence of traditional shopping options during quarantine also led her to explore her own home for materials, specifically seeking a sturdy base for the second sink, with an old wood worktable's legs being a promising candidate. The renovation proceeded in small, manageable steps. Although the cabinets were not fully secured initially, they were positioned correctly, allowing Ford to temporarily cover them with a tabletop to create a food prep area for her family. Her advice to others undertaking renovations during similar restrictions included avoiding new projects if possible and being realistic with spouses about project timelines. Following the cabinet installation, Ford planned to tackle smaller, tool-intensive tasks such as replacing shower fixtures, drywalling, and installing cabinet hardware, acknowledging that her to-do list remained extensive. #KitchenRenovation #DIY #HomeImprovement #QuarantineProject #InteriorDesign #LeanneFord #CabinetInstallation #DesignFlexibility #KitchenRenovation #DIY #HomeImprovement #QuarantineProject #InteriorDesign #LeanneFord #CabinetInstallation #DesignFlexibility
