Don't Redecorate Yet: Designers Predict These 6 Trends Will Make a Comeback in 2025

Interior design trends are cyclical, with certain aesthetics experiencing resurgence over time. This article explores six specific design elements that industry experts predict will regain popularity in 2025. These trends offer a blend of nostalgia and contemporary relevance, providing homeowners with fresh yet familiar ways to enhance their living spaces. One prominent trend identified is the re-emergence of various types of trim. Miriam Silver Verga, co-founder of Mimi & Hill Design, notes a return to decorative trim applications, such as micro-fringe on cushions, detailed trim on shaker cabinets, and pencil trim for tiles. Lauren Waldorf Mendenhall of Lauren Waldorf Interiors specifically highlights scalloped trim appearing on headboards, cabinet toe kicks, and drapery, signaling a move towards more intricate and embellished details in home furnishings and fixtures. Another significant trend is the growing demand for "back kitchens" or walk-in pantries, driven by an increased interest in at-home entertaining. Verga explains that these spaces are designed to house heavy-duty appliances like second ovens and dishwashing centers, allowing the main kitchen to feature more aesthetically pleasing, but less durable, materials like marble. This functional separation supports both serious culinary endeavors and maintaining a pristine main living area. Curved sofas are also making a comeback, offering a softer, more conversational alternative to traditional angular sectionals. Mendenhall describes these pieces as chic and a retro throwback, particularly when upholstered in luxurious fabrics such as velvet or nubby textures. This trend emphasizes comfort and a more organic flow within living room layouts. Floral prints, a perennial design element, are expected to evolve in 2025. Mendenhall suggests a shift from the "grandmillennial" style towards moodier, tapestry-like floral and leafy upholstery. This iteration of floral patterns aims for a more sophisticated and atmospheric aesthetic, often featured on statement furniture pieces. Lime wash walls are gaining traction as a way to introduce texture and depth beyond traditional wallpaper. Nicole Alexander, founder of Siren Betty Design, points out that lime wash creates movement and a timeless, atmospheric backdrop, as demonstrated in her design for the Lou Lou event space. This technique provides a subtle yet impactful way to add character to interiors. Finally, glass blocks are shedding their outdated image to become a sophisticated architectural feature. Alexander successfully incorporated them into a Chicago cocktail bar, leveraging their ability to diffuse light in captivating ways. She emphasizes how glass blocks merge 1980s nostalgia with modern elegance, demonstrating their functional and aesthetic versatility. These six trends collectively suggest a return to thoughtful detailing, practical yet stylish solutions for entertaining, softer forms, and textured surfaces, all while embracing a touch of refined vintage charm. #DesignTrends #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #TrimDetails #BackKitchens #CurvedFurniture #FloralPrints #LimeWashWalls #GlassBlocks #DesignTrends #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #TrimDetails #BackKitchens #CurvedFurniture #FloralPrints #LimeWashWalls #GlassBlocks
