6 Vintage Design Trends That Are Making a Comeback in 2025, According to Designers

The dynamic world of home decor frequently cycles through trends, with certain vintage styles re-emerging into the spotlight. As 2025 approaches, interior designers anticipate the resurgence of several vintage looks that promise to add character and elegance to contemporary spaces. This article highlights six specific vintage design trends expected to gain significant popularity, offering insights from industry experts Madelaine Mayer, founder of AD:ROIT; Teri Clar, founder of NAFASI Interiors; and Sydney Kaufman, an interior designer with Mackenzie Collier Interiors. One prominent trend is the return of gilded mirrors and picture frames. Rather than minimalist, sleek designs, ornate and gilded pieces are set to make a comeback. Madelaine Mayer notes that these items, particularly when paired with contemporary furnishings, introduce a "vintage sparkle and charm" that prevents a space from feeling monotonous. The reflective quality of mirrors naturally enhances this effect, making them versatile additions, whether leaning above a mantelpiece or gracing an entryway wall. Another anticipated trend is the resurgence of expertly painted wood furniture. This doesn't refer to simple, solid colors or DIY sponge painting, but rather meticulously handcrafted finishes. Mayer describes these as featuring variations, distressing, and glazed details in a wide array of colors. Often, these pieces incorporate folk art and figural motifs on surfaces such as headboards, footboards, side rails, and cabinet faces. This approach celebrates the value of human craftsmanship in an increasingly automated world, offering a way to revitalize existing vintage furniture with a fresh, artistic touch. Passementerie, the French term for elaborate trimmings, is also expected to see a significant return. Mayer foresees elements like tassel trim on drapery panels, tassel curtain tie-backs, and brush fringe on pillows becoming more prevalent. These intricate details can elevate a space, adding elegance, color, texture, and a vintage appeal, especially when thoughtfully combined with modern fabrics and contemporary furniture. Such trimmings offer a subtle yet impactful way to infuse historical charm into a room. The vibrant aesthetic of '70s colors and styles is another trend slated for a comeback. Teri Clar from NAFASI Interiors advocates for embracing hues like green, gold, brown, and rust to achieve a '70s chic look. This trend encourages incorporating vintage pieces that embody this era's palette, such as retro punch bowls or other decorative items, to create a distinct and nostalgic atmosphere within the home. "Grandma florals" are re-entering the design scene, according to Sydney Kaufman of Mackenzie Collier Interiors. These bold floral prints are returning with a contemporary twist, suggesting that they should be paired with unexpected pieces or bright colors to ensure they feel current rather than dated. The emphasis is on moving beyond conventionally "safe" choices like simple stripes or boucle textures, encouraging homeowners to embrace bolder patterns and express more personality in their decor. Finally, Art Deco styles from the 1920s are predicted to make a strong comeback. Kaufman observes a shift away from exclusively modern aesthetics, particularly noticeable in tile designs and color palettes. This trend encourages the incorporation of Art Deco elements such as curved lines, mosaic tiles, and deep jewel tones. The key, however, is to integrate these elements in a way that feels fresh and balanced, avoiding an overly themed or staged appearance, to create a sophisticated and timeless space. #VintageDesignTrends #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #GildedMirrors #PaintedWoodFurniture #Passementerie #70sStyle #BoldFlorals #ArtDeco #VintageDesignTrends #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #GildedMirrors #PaintedWoodFurniture #Passementerie #70sStyle #BoldFlorals #ArtDeco
