A Look Inside the Stunning Transformation of a Historic Rectory

In a picturesque English village, the interior design firm Sims Hilditch undertook the transformation of a historic rectory, originally constructed in 1630 with subsequent additions, into a contemporary cottage-style weekend retreat. The clients, seeking respite from the fast-paced London life, desired a home that respectfully acknowledged its rich history while incorporating modern sensibilities. Emma Sims Hilditch, the lead designer, aimed to unify the building's diverse architectural styles into a cohesive and tranquil design. The renovation focused on creating a restful escape, blending historical charm with updated functionality and aesthetics. The dining room, designed to be both peaceful and elegant, features a palette of blue-toned grays and warm woods. A central oak dining table from Neptune is complemented by matching chairs and a glazed rack dresser. Damask curtains, custom-made by the Sims Hilditch team using GP & J Baker fabric, add a touch of sophistication, while dome wall lights from Original BTC and Havwoods oak fossil flooring complete the space. The kitchen's design prioritizes natural light, showcasing a simple yet refined aesthetic with subtle, unique details. Many fixtures, including the lily-white cabinetry, Perrin & Rowe tap, Villeroy & Boch sink, and willow basket, were sourced from Neptune. Sims Hilditch fabricated the blinds using GP & J Baker fabric. The worktop, from Generix Stone Fabrication Ltd., boasts a rich, textured color, and the floor is adorned with lush limestone paneling by Mandarin Stone. A rack from Neptune, originally a coat hanger, finds new utility in this space, contributing to the cottage-style influence evident through exposed wood and a Garden Trading beech paddle board. The mudroom is both elegant and functional, featuring organizing accessories like willow baskets from Neptune. The sitting room introduces vibrant color through tangerines and cerulean blues, with cushions, a coffee table, a lamp stand, and a sofa from Neptune. Custom curtains made from Lewis & Wood fabric and gray wall sconces from Original BTC framing an India Jane mirror enhance the room's character. The drawing room is distinguished by intricate print curtains designed by Sims Hilditch using Colefax and Fowler fabric, alongside Neptune cushions, armchairs, and sofas. An India Jane coffee table and a Capitol Carpets basket-weave rug, paired with an Eichholtz Roman-inspired floor lamp, add to the room's refined ambiance. A half-bath offers charming simplicity, while the master bedroom showcases Sims Hilditch’s expertise in pattern selection with Knowles & Christou wallpaper providing a beautiful backdrop for Neptune furniture, including a king bed, oak stools, and a bedside table. OKA fabric was used for the bed cushions and Libeco linen for the curtains, with Vaughan ceramic table lamps providing lighting. A small vanity, functioning as both a workspace and vanity, creates an intimate routine space. Neptune designed the desk, mirror, and wall lights, complemented by a Robert Langford chair. One of the home's original five bedrooms was converted into a spacious master bath, featuring a Clearwater Baths sleigh tub as a focal point. Porta Romana wall lights, New England Shutter Company shutters, and a Balineum bathmat contribute to a soft, minimalist style. The children’s bedroom maintains the overall design aesthetic but incorporates playful elements, such as trundle beds from Tasha Beds and bed cushions from Neptune. Dome wall lights from Original BTC and a Jim Lawrence star-printed lampshade are featured, with a Balineum laundry basket offering practical storage. The sparsely furnished hallway includes unique pieces like a custom Sims Hilditch twisted leg center table, Eichholtz box wall lamps, and a nine-arm chandelier by Richard Taylor Designs. Capitol Carpets provided the textured carpeting, and Sims Hilditch crafted the Roman blind using GP & J Baker fabric. The study features Pierre Frey wallpaper, an Eichholtz wood and glass desk, table lamp, and print, alongside a Neptune rolling chair and nickel wall lights. #HistoricRenovation #CottageStyle #InteriorDesign #SimsHilditch #EnglishVillage #LuxuryHome #HomeDecor #NeptuneFurniture #HistoricRenovation #CottageStyle #InteriorDesign #SimsHilditch #EnglishVillage #LuxuryHome #HomeDecor #NeptuneFurniture
