The kitchen, measuring 165 square feet, was optimized for space and aesthetics, with Shaker-style cabinetry painted in a soft sage green. These floor-to-ceiling built-ins ingeniously conceal a pantry, a custom-paneled refrigerator, and an appliance garage, addressing the homeowners' desire for ample storage and a clutter-free environment. A key design feature is the use of high-contrast Calacatta Viola marble, which adorns the countertops and a creamy white island. Unlike the more subdued Carrara marble, Calacatta Viola is notable for its bold purple veining, providing an eye-catching element. The marble also extends six inches up the walls, serving as a functional and decorative backsplash. Copper accents play a significant role in the kitchen's aesthetic, with a custom-made scallop-edge vent hood taking center stage. Instead of traditional upper cabinets, Claire Zinnecker opted for handsome solid white oak open shelves, 1.75-inches thick, to display Rachel's cherished ceramic dishware and antique oil paintings. The design incorporates easy-access drawers in place of conventional lower cabinets, a practical decision praised by Rachel for better organization of kitchen items.
