Types of Bathroom Vanity — A Handy Guide to Help Design Your Bathroom

The selection of a bathroom vanity significantly impacts both the aesthetic appeal and the functional utility of a bathroom space. This guide explores various vanity types, offering expert insights to aid in making informed decisions. The primary considerations include how a vanity integrates into daily routines, the available space, and personal design preferences. For instance, while double vanities are often desired in modern bathrooms, they may not be suitable for all layouts, and even compact basins for small bathrooms might prove impractical for everyday demands. One popular option is the floating vanity, which is mounted on the wall to create an illusion of weightlessness, lending a modern and sophisticated ambiance. Kashi Shikunova, director of Yam Studios, highlights its elegant proportions and the ease of cleaning underneath due to its elevated design. However, a notable disadvantage is its reduced storage capacity, making it a better fit for bathrooms with ample supplementary storage or for individuals who prefer a minimalist approach. Pedestal vanities offer a more traditional aesthetic and are recognized for their storage efficiency, particularly in smaller bathrooms. While they effectively utilize space, Shikunova cautions that achieving balanced proportions can be challenging. If not appropriately scaled for the room, they can appear bulky and less streamlined. Pedestal vanities are best suited for larger spaces where their proportions can enhance the overall spatial aesthetics without creating a cluttered feel. Single vanities are designed for bathrooms used by one person or in situations where space is limited. Lauren Lerner, founder and CEO of Living with Lolo, notes that these vanities are space-saving and cost-effective, making them ideal for smaller bathrooms. However, they can lead to congestion during peak usage times and offer less storage compared to double vanities. Shelagh Conway, founder of Triple Heart Design, points out that the sink often consumes a significant portion of the storage space in a single vanity. To address this, Triple Heart Design has developed three-drawer vanities that feature a U-shaped design around the sink and plumbing, maximizing every available inch of storage. While single vanities offer design flexibility and are easier to clean, homes with double vanities might command higher resale values. The ultimate choice depends on factors such as bathroom size, usage patterns, and individual preferences. Double vanities are suitable for larger bathrooms with multiple users, such as master bathrooms or shared family bathrooms, where simultaneous use is common. These vanities provide a luxurious appearance and extensive storage. Conway advises that while double vanities are ideal for spaces 60 inches or wider, they can still present challenges for drawer storage. To optimize storage in such setups, she recommends opting for full drawer units or incorporating additional tall linen cabinets. Lerner emphasizes their convenience, functionality, and ample storage options, making them a practical choice for busy households. #BathroomDesign #BathroomVanity #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #ModernBathroom #SmallBathroomIdeas #StorageSolutions #DesignTips #BathroomDesign #BathroomVanity #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #ModernBathroom #SmallBathroomIdeas #StorageSolutions #DesignTips
