Spotlight: HOMEE AI Delivers AI-Powered Spatial Planning to Your Living Room
HOMEE AI, a member of NVIDIA Inception and based in Taiwan, has introduced an “AI-as-a-service” solution for spatial planning, aiming to revolutionize the global home decor market, valued at $650 billion. The company's objective is to empower furniture manufacturers and home designers by leveraging industrial digitalization to uncover new business opportunities. The engineering team at HOMEE AI utilized NVIDIA Omniverse to create an enterprise-ready service capable of delivering physically accurate 3D furniture assets directly into a user's home environment.
Kenny Du, founder and CEO of HOMEE AI, highlighted that the home furnishing industry is currently lagging in technological adoption. He stated that the company's mission is to accelerate digital transformation within this industry, making the process of furnishing homes more accessible and enjoyable. A core component of their solution is Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD), the foundational framework and ecosystem of Omniverse. OpenUSD enables HOMEE AI to integrate diverse customer data sources, thereby unlocking new capabilities for their spatial AI solution. The HOMEE Optimal Planning Engine (H.O.P.E.) specifically uses USD metadata to suggest optimal furniture assets and their placement. This solution is powered by NVIDIA RTX Technology on Omniverse, which facilitates real-time rendering and superior AI performance.
The home furnishing and interior design sectors are experiencing a significant shift, with consumers increasingly demanding the ability to visualize products before purchase. Traditional methods struggle to offer realistic, immersive experiences with rapid rendering and user-friendly interfaces. The current process of measuring and planning spaces is often time-consuming and cumbersome, with HOMEE AI estimating an average of 20 days for design creation. Furthermore, the cost per sale (CPS) for furniture items is substantial; HOMEE AI found it costs approximately $140 to acquire a customer for a sofa. To address these challenges and meet consumer expectations, furniture companies are embracing industrial digitalization, including digital twins, and are increasing their investments in e-commerce. Many leading providers are digitizing their product catalogs into extensive libraries of photorealistic 3D models, which they use for their e-commerce platforms and augmented reality visualization applications.
H.O.P.E. provides a cost-effective sales channel for global furniture brands, allowing consumers to visualize furniture in their living spaces using photorealistic OpenUSD-based 3D models. This technology streamlines the digitalization efforts of home decor companies while enabling consumers to virtually "try on" products before committing to a purchase. The platform is gaining traction among furniture manufacturers and suppliers, enabling them to link their asset libraries directly to consumer homes and expedite the buying process. H.O.P.E.'s development on Omniverse enhances its flexibility and scalability, leveraging foundational technologies like Nucleus, the integration of APIs such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, and OpenUSD as its primary data model. OpenUSD, maintained by the Alliance for OpenUSD, is a robust interchange for collaboratively building and aggregating 3D scenes.
HOMEE AI initially underestimated OpenUSD's potential beyond a mere 3D file format. They quickly recognized its capacity to introduce flexibility and scalability into workflows, transforming customer experiences. OpenUSD supports various properties for defining and rendering objects, making scene structuring and editing more efficient and collaborative through sparse, non-destructive authoring. Its non-destructive layering allows users to adjust properties like geometry, pose, and lighting without affecting the entire scene, a feature HOMEE AI uses to reference and iterate on customer 3D models. This connectivity to USD opens new possibilities, enabling customers to connect their data to a secure cloud environment for delivering showroom experiences in their own homes. Using the H.O.P.E mobile app, users can transform their physical rooms into virtual Omniverse scenes, where they can arrange 3D furniture assets linked to retailer marketplaces. HOMEE AI employs OpenUSD to accommodate different 3D content creation tools, ensuring seamless integration of furniture models from various sources. By collaborating with industry partners, HOMEE AI connects 3D models to the Omniverse Nucleus database or receives them directly, converting and optimizing them into USD for a comprehensive furniture catalog. Omniverse DeepSearch, a Nucleus feature, enhances AI-powered search capabilities, simplifying the design process by efficiently locating and integrating appropriate furniture pieces into virtual spaces.
Building on Omniverse with USD positions HOMEE AI to continuously integrate advanced AI capabilities. Features like NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Omniverse DeepSearch are native to the Omniverse platform and can be incorporated into end-user solutions. NVIDIA Isaac Sim, an extensible robotics simulator within Omniverse, offers scalable, photorealistic, and physically accurate virtual environments crucial for training HOMEE AI's spatial AI solution. By simulating various scenarios, Isaac Sim provides the AI model with a rich learning environment, enabling it to tackle diverse spatial planning challenges. The ability of USD to aggregate extensive data, including spatial information, creates an optimal environment for AI models to analyze and make recommendations. HOMEE AI's spatial AI leverages USD metadata to suggest ideal furniture assets and their optimal placement. As OpenUSD evolves, HOMEE AI plans to expand its 3D capabilities and deliver innovative experiences for its partners through the growing ecosystem of technologies and opportunities. The company believes USD will become universally adopted and will keep them at the forefront of innovation in 3D and digital twin workflows.
