Create Harmony With This Clodagh x Marc Phillips Rug Collab
The collaboration between Interior Design Hall of Famer Clodagh and Marc Phillips Rugs has culminated in a new collection of rugs inspired by the five elements: wood, metal, fire, earth, and water. This partnership, born from a shared design philosophy, resulted in a collection that aims to introduce balance and harmony into living spaces through thoughtful design.
The rugs, each measuring 9 by 12 feet, are meticulously hand-knotted using a blend of allo, wool, and silk. They feature subtle textures and patterns that abstractly represent their corresponding elements. The design process focused on capturing the essence of each element across various cultural interpretations, including Chinese, Japanese, Buddhist, Greek, and Babylonian traditions.
Clodagh, known for her holistic approach to design, emphasizes that these rugs are not merely decorative items but tools to evoke specific energies within a space. For instance, the 'Water' rug is intended to promote a sense of calm and abundance, ideal for areas where relaxation and flow are desired. The 'Wood' rug, with its grounding aesthetics, is designed to foster growth and vitality, making it suitable for spaces that encourage productivity and natural connection.
The 'Metal' element rug aims to bring clarity and precision, aligning with environments where focus and order are paramount. The 'Fire' rug is crafted to ignite passion and high energy, fitting for vibrant and dynamic spaces. Finally, the 'Earth' rug is conceived to provide stability and nourishment, creating a secure and comforting atmosphere.
Each rug in the collection is available in multiple colorways, allowing for versatility in interior applications while maintaining the elemental theme. The nuanced color palettes and material choices contribute to the overall sensory experience, ensuring that each piece resonates with its intended energetic quality. The collaboration underscores the belief that design can profoundly influence the ambiance and well-being of occupants, moving beyond aesthetic appeal to create truly harmonious environments.
