I tested Ninja’s double stack air fryer for weeks – here’s my verdict

The Ninja double stack air fryer, launched last year, has gained significant attention due to its innovative space-saving design. Unlike traditional dual air fryers which feature side-by-side cooking baskets, this model stacks two baskets one on top of the other, resulting in a significantly slimmer footprint on kitchen countertops. Each basket includes a removable, non-stick crisper plate and a raised metal rack, allowing for four layers of cooking space and a total capacity of 7.6 liters. Measuring 28cm wide and 38.5cm high, it is approximately 25 percent slimmer than standard dual air fryers and fits comfortably under kitchen cabinets, addressing a common challenge in smaller kitchens. The appliance arrives fully assembled, requiring only the removal of packaging and a quick wash of removable parts. It comes with an instruction booklet, a quick-start guide, and a one-page reminder for layered cooking, including suggested ingredients. The quick-start guide, filled with colorful recipes, largely duplicates information found in the main booklet, making the quick-start guide a primary reference for users. The controls are conveniently located on the side of the machine, offering easy access, though the loud beeping sound during operation cannot be disabled. Functionality-wise, the two baskets operate independently, allowing for different temperatures and cooking times in each. Users can choose to use just one basket or both simultaneously. A significant advantage over some other models is that opening one drawer does not interrupt the cooking process in the other. The air fryer also features a 'match' function, which duplicates cooking settings across both baskets, and a 'sync' function, which coordinates different cooking times and temperatures to ensure both items are ready simultaneously. The heating elements are located at the back, with ventilated back panels on the baskets to promote air circulation. This design is effective for air frying with stacked shelves, but requires the use of liners for 'wet' foods, such as brownies. When air frying, achieving optimal results, particularly with foods like chips, requires frequent shaking of the contents, ideally every five minutes, to ensure even cooking. The instruction booklet emphasizes this need, recommending at least three shakes per cooking cycle, a feature not automated by a reminder function. The double stack design supports layered cooking, with Ninja recommending proteins on the top layer and vegetables or starches on the bottom, as the top layer crisps faster. Testing with chicken breasts on top and new potatoes on the bottom demonstrated that while the chicken cooked in 15 minutes, the potatoes required an additional 10 minutes to crisp fully. The juices and spices from the top layer were found to enhance the flavor of the bottom layer. While the product packaging suggests meals for six people, practical testing indicated it is more realistic for a family of four or five. Beyond air frying, the appliance offers 'max crisp,' 'roast,' 'bake,' 'dehydrate,' and 'reheat' settings. The 'roast' function rapidly crisped chickpeas in eight minutes, and 'max crisp' cooked frozen halloumi fries quickly. The 'bake' function successfully produced spongy, fudgy peanut butter brownies. However, the 'dehydrate' function, tested with strawberries, was less impressive, requiring eight hours to fully dehydrate a small quantity of fruit, a considerably long time. Cleaning is convenient, as the baskets, racks, and crisper plates are dishwasher-safe, though hand-washing is recommended. The baskets fit into standard washing-up bowls and dishwashers, and while the non-stick parts are easy to clean by hand, the racks may require more scrubbing. The Ninja double stack air fryer is presented as a space-saving solution for smaller kitchens, offering good capacity and versatile cooking functions, albeit with a learning curve for achieving even results, particularly with foods requiring frequent shaking. #NinjaAirFryer #KitchenAppliances #SpaceSavingDesign #HomeCooking #DualAirFryer #KitchenGadgets #ApplianceReview #CookingTechnology #MealPreparation #NinjaAirFryer #KitchenAppliances #SpaceSavingDesign #HomeCooking #DualAirFryer #KitchenGadgets #ApplianceReview #CookingTechnology #MealPreparation
