Studio Tali Roth: Crafting an interior identity

Tali Roth, the founder of Studio Tali Roth, brings a distinctive and atmospheric design language to interiors, shaped by her Australian suburban upbringing and refined in New York. Roth's approach is deeply personal and eclectic, focusing on helping clients develop a sense of self through their living spaces. This philosophy stems from her childhood enjoyment of giving makeovers, which she now translates into interior design through a process she calls 'the glow-up'. Her designs often feature textured and colored wall finishes, wallpapers, carefully curated objects—sometimes with a balanced touch of the 'ugly'—and reupholstered vintage furnishings. After graduating from RMIT in interior design in 2013, Roth moved to New York without a definitive plan. In New York, she encountered a different approach to interior design compared to Australia, where large windows emphasize the interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces. In contrast, New York apartments often have smaller windows, necessitating a distinct skill set to create engaging interior environments. Roth observed that the American interior experience offered more opportunities for individual expression, aligning with the legacy of interior decorators like Elsie De Wolfe, who advocated for original treatments in every room to individualize interiors, especially during a period of burgeoning apartment buildings with repetitive floor plans. Roth worked on approximately 70 projects before establishing her New York-based studio in 2015. An example of her New York work, the '5th Avenue' project, showcases her ability to create varied atmospheric experiences within an apartment through eclectic colors, finishes, objects, and furniture. This project demonstrates how dark, textural volumes can transition into bright, warm interiors, reflecting the influence of New York's urban environment on her design methodology. In 2020, Roth returned to Melbourne to re-establish her practice. Upon her return, projects like 'Terrazzo Palazzo,' a family home, exemplify her continued commitment to deeply personalized and eclectic design. This project is characterized by its unique combination of colors, finishes, objects, and furniture, all chosen to evoke a specific feeling or experience for the inhabitants. Roth's ultimate goal is to create spaces that resonate emotionally with people. Her design philosophy emphasizes individualism and personality, using elements that might be considered unconventional but are intentionally balanced to contribute to a cohesive and unique aesthetic. She integrates vintage elements and bespoke finishes to ensure each space tells a story and reflects the client's identity rather than adhering to transient trends. This blend of Australian roots and New York sophistication has allowed her to cultivate a versatile and expressive design style that prioritizes atmospheric quality and personal connection over conventional norms. The article highlights Roth's journey and her dedication to crafting interiors that are not just visually appealing but also deeply meaningful and reflective of their occupants' personalities. #InteriorDesign #TaliRoth #StudioTaliRoth #EclecticStyle #NewYorkDesign #MelbourneDesign #PersonalizedInteriors #VintageFurnishings #AtmosphericDesign #InteriorDesign #TaliRoth #StudioTaliRoth #EclecticStyle #NewYorkDesign #MelbourneDesign #PersonalizedInteriors #VintageFurnishings #AtmosphericDesign
