I went on a $7,075 cruise for 9 days. See inside my 344-square-foot suite with a glass sunroom and walk-in closet.

The author embarked on a nine-day luxury river cruise aboard the Scenic Spirit, a vessel accommodating 68 guests. The journey traversed the Mekong River through Vietnam and Cambodia, followed by a three-night land tour of Siem Reap's temples. The cruise, an all-inclusive experience, covered lodging, meals, drinks, WiFi, excursions, transfers, luggage handling, port charges, tips, and taxes, with a value of approximately $7,075 for the author's specific sailing. This premium offering contrasts with the vastness and less exclusive nature of larger cruise ships. The author's accommodation was a 344-square-foot deluxe cabin, which is roughly double the size of typical entry-level cabins on megaships. Despite being the smallest suite category on the Scenic Spirit, it felt notably spacious. Each suite includes a personal butler, providing services such as pillow selection, shoe shining, drink delivery, and minibar stocking. The cabin featured a well-proportioned living area, complete with a sofa, coffee table, desk, and chair, where the furniture was custom-fitted to maximize space efficiency. A standout feature of the suite was the 'balcony' area, which could be transformed into a sunroom. With a press of a button, a glass wall retracted, allowing the space to be open to the elements. This glass partition could also be fully closed, enabling the 'balcony' to remain open while the rest of the room stayed air-conditioned, providing a private vantage point for enjoying river views. Storage was ample, with drawers under the sofa and a walk-in closet. The walk-in closet was generously sized, comfortably accommodating luggage and housing a stocked refrigerator, daily refilled water bottles, glasses, a safe, bathrobes, and umbrellas. While the closet had only two usable drawers, additional storage was available in the nightstands. The sleeping area featured a queen-size bed with nightstands and ambient mood lighting, and the window next to the bed could be opened electronically. The bed, a Scenic Slumber model, was remote-controlled, allowing guests to adjust the head and foot positions for personalized comfort, which was particularly useful for reading or working on a laptop. The bathroom was also spacious, equipped with a large vanity basin offering storage, a lighted makeup mirror, and a separate toilet. The shower was a highlight, larger than typical cruise showers and offering multiple settings, including a rainfall shower, a waterfall deluge, a horizontal jet, and a handheld attachment. High-quality bath amenities, cotton swabs, and tissues were provided. Although the bath towels were noted as being slightly small and not as soft as desired, the overall room experience was highly positive, serving as a comfortable and private retreat between activities, allowing the author to enjoy uninterrupted river views. #LuxuryCruise #RiverCruise #SuiteDesign #TravelExperience #ScenicSpirit #MekongRiver #AllInclusive #CabinAmenities #Travelogue #LuxuryCruise #RiverCruise #SuiteDesign #TravelExperience #ScenicSpirit #MekongRiver #AllInclusive #CabinAmenities #Travelogue

My son and I traveled 27 hours on Amtrak in a private bedroom and roomettes. The pricey upgrades were worth it.

My family spent $7,700 chartering a 4-bedroom private yacht in Croatia for a week. It was better than a cruise.
