Revitalizing Elegance: Crystal Plaza
Crystal Plaza, a family-owned and operated wedding venue in Livingston, New Jersey, has recently undergone an extensive transformation, blending its historic charm with contemporary updates. Established over 100 years ago, the venue is known for hosting one event at a time, providing a highly personalized and accommodating experience. In 2020, Crystal Plaza expanded with a new 13,000 square foot event space and renovated numerous areas under the guidance of interior designers Judi Schwarz and Jennifer Lewicki of Judi Schwarz Interiors.
Schwarz and Lewicki, who have worked together for 30 years and typically specialize in residential and office design, developed a clean, modern aesthetic with an edgy flair for Crystal Plaza. Their design incorporated mixed metals, eccentric materials, and customizable lighting to create versatile spaces that can be tailored to each client's vision. The venue ensures complete accessibility with three elevators and can accommodate up to 400 guests.
Key renovated spaces include The Penthouse, an exclusive bridal suite designed to cater to every need of the bride and her bridal party. It features a full-service nail and hair salon, dedicated photo areas, organized wardrobes, multiple changing rooms, steam showers, and a massage area. A butler service provides food and beverage, and all furniture is movable for customization. Adjacent to The Penthouse is the Chandelier Suite, a tranquil space for the bride to relax, complete with a couch and en-suite bathroom. Flower arrangements throughout these spaces are provided by Dalsimer Spitz & Peck.
Coming in the summer of 2021, The Vault is designed as a luxurious groom's lounge, offering a full-length bar, a fully-ventilated cigar lounge, a golf simulator, and a barbershop. This addition aims to provide a comprehensive experience for the groom and his party.
The Atrium, Crystal Plaza’s new indoor ceremony location, is a versatile space suitable for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and after-parties. It features a bright, clean white base, a large open ceiling, and unique details such as silver-speckled wood floors by Kuche+Cucina. The room's lighting, enhanced by West Essex Lighting Studio, can change colors, as can the icy glass panels by Galaxy Glass, allowing for adaptable ambiance. Windows in The Atrium can be covered by moving screen doors for photography or used as projectors.
The Grand Ballroom, originally built in 1995, also received significant upgrades. Space was added to increase capacity, chandeliers were raised, lighting was modernized, and window dressings were removed to enhance brightness and openness. The room's intricate details were repainted in 14 Karat yellow-gold, imparting a palatial feel. A 30-foot round mahogany dance floor anchors the room, offering views of the nearly 2-acre manicured garden, which itself has been updated with new stone and lighting.
Even the administrative offices at Crystal Plaza were part of the renovation, with lighting updates, new furniture, and a stunning restoration of a 100-year-old family heirloom desk. Custom pieces and elegant carpets by Starr Carpet contribute to a sleek and refined workspace for the Crystal Plaza team.
Ultimately, Crystal Plaza's revitalization successfully merges its rich history with modern design, creating a versatile and enchanting venue that moves away from conventional event spaces, ensuring a unique and memorable experience for all its clients.
