LED swarovski crystal chandelier by ronan + erwan bouroullec
French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have collaborated with Swarovski, a renowned crystal manufacturer, to create the 'Gabriel Chandelier,' a striking LED lighting installation within the historic Palace of Versailles in Paris. This piece marks the first permanent contemporary art installation in the 17th-century château. The chandelier, measuring an impressive 12 meters in height and weighing half a tonne, is suspended over the palace's main staircase. It comprises 800 crystal modules that are meticulously threaded around a robust stainless steel skeleton. These crystal modules are designed to illuminate the interior space with a sequential light pattern, creating a magical effect. During the day, the continuous crystal rope glimmers naturally, reflecting ambient light. As evening approaches, the LED system provides a warm and inviting glow, enhancing the grandeur of the surroundings. The collaboration between the Bouroullec brothers and Swarovski blends traditional crystal artistry with modern LED technology, resulting in a unique and captivating lighting solution. The choice of the Palace of Versailles as its permanent home underscores the piece's significance and its ability to integrate contemporary design into a historical context. The designers aimed to create an intervention that respects the palace's heritage while introducing a new dimension of light and form. The 'Gabriel Chandelier' serves as a testament to innovative design, combining aesthetic beauty with functional illumination, and represents a notable achievement in both lighting design and architectural integration. The installation not only lights the space but also interacts with it, changing its character between day and night, offering a dynamic visual experience to visitors.
