Stripes are the on-trend pattern that never really went away – here's how to decorate with them in 2025

Stripes are a timeless and versatile pattern in interior design, offering both order and structure while dramatically altering the perception of space. They can add rhythm, create movement, or introduce elegance or playfulness depending on their style and application. Despite cyclical trends, stripes have remained a welcome addition to various home styles, seamlessly blending into different interior aesthetics. One effective way to incorporate stripes is through vintage striped wallpaper. This year, vintage patterns are prominently featured in wallpaper trends. Wrapping a room in bold, uniform striped wallpaper creates a statement, making any space feel fun and offering a nod to classic vintage styles. Striped wallpaper can also create the illusion of a wider room, a technique long utilized by interior designers. Whether opting for a farmhouse print combining stripes and florals or a stripe mimicking a fabric canopy, vintage-inspired wallpaper provides a classic foundation for decorating with stripes. This approach can be balanced with neutral decor or amplified with additional bold striped pieces. Another impactful method is 'pattern drenching' with stripes, also known as stripe drenching. This involves covering a space, from walls to soft furnishings, in charming stripes to create a unique and bespoke feel. Matching blinds to striped wallpaper, for instance, creates a seamless transition that adds drama and visually expands the space by removing competing elements. The key is to achieve impact without overwhelming the room, allowing other features to stand out in unison. Mixing and matching stripes with other patterns can result in a cozy, layered, and eclectic space, particularly effective in maximalist homes. The success of this approach lies in establishing a clear, shared color palette to prevent the room from feeling chaotic. Finding similarities in patterns, such as a common shade or fine, detailed prints, also helps maintain cohesion. Stripes, while visually interesting on their own, can also enhance both large and small-scale patterns. They can be paired with chintz fabrics and classic English roll-arm upholstery for a timeless, traditional look, or combined with clean-lined mid-century pieces and contemporary lighting for a modern classic aesthetic, proving their adaptability. For a more understated approach, introducing a single statement piece of furniture featuring stripes can be effective. Stripes consistently appear in furniture trends, proving their enduring appeal across different eras and styles. A striped armchair or a mid-century chair with a striped seat can provide a bold contrast to a neutral color scheme without overwhelming the room. The pattern naturally breaks up solid areas, contributing structure and balance. Bold, contrasting stripes can inject energy and drama, while softer, narrower stripes in neutral or pastel tones add gentle texture. Incorporating a striped rug is another impactful way to add color and personality to a plain space. Striped rugs can also create visual illusions, making a room appear wider or longer. Layering striped rugs over jute or plain weaves can create a more dynamic floor. This technique can redirect the eye and reshape a space, serving as a powerful tool in interior architecture. Beyond rugs, striped carpets are also fashionable, with horizontal stripes grounding the scheme and adding character and vitality to a room, effectively treating the floor as a 'fifth wall.' Layering stripes of different sizes, widths, directions, and even colors can create a cohesive and well-designed scheme. The key is to maintain a consistent color palette and style. This approach, often seen in maximalist bedroom designs, allows for a whimsical and enticing feel, embracing various forms of stripes from bedding to wallpaper, without becoming overly whimsical. The varying stripe elements can still feel connected when a clear design intention is present. Finally, creating tiled stripes in bathrooms or kitchen backsplashes offers a timeless and heritage feel. This is particularly effective in bathrooms, where it can evoke a classic New England coastal style or add much-needed contrast to modern, one-dimensional spaces. Tiled striped murals, especially in showers, can become architectural features, popping against white walls. In kitchens, horizontal tiles in matching colors can create space-enhancing striped backsplash ideas. These diverse applications demonstrate the enduring appeal and adaptability of stripes in interior design, adding personality and visual interest to any home environment. #StripedDecor #InteriorDesignTrends #WallpaperIdeas #PatternDrenching #HomeDecor #FurnitureTrends #RugStyling #TileDesign #EclecticInteriors #StripedDecor #InteriorDesignTrends #WallpaperIdeas #PatternDrenching #HomeDecor #FurnitureTrends #RugStyling #TileDesign #EclecticInteriors
