Tuft Tuft Lets You Weave Your Own Rug
Tuft Tuft, a new store located in Tysons Corner Center, offers a creative outlet for individuals interested in the art of tufting. The establishment, which opened in December 2022, provides a workshop space for both beginners and experienced crafters to create their own custom rugs and other textile art. Jiaya Terakawa, the owner, founded Tuft Tuft from a personal passion for DIY projects, aiming to provide a platform for imaginative expression. The store provides all the necessary materials, including a wide selection of colors and yarn sizes, enabling customers to craft items ranging from large bedroom rugs to smaller pieces like coasters or mirror frames.
The tufting process involves feeding yarn into a backing fabric to form patterns, a technique that has gained significant traction on platforms like TikTok. Tuft Tuft capitalizes on this growing trend by offering hands-on workshops. The duration required to complete a tufted item varies, with smaller projects typically taking one to two hours and larger, more intricate designs potentially requiring up to four hours. To ensure availability, customers are encouraged to book workshops in advance. The cost for a workshop is $20, in addition to material fees, with a mini rug, for example, costing $58, plus an additional $10 for trimming. Children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to participate.
Beyond tufting, Tuft Tuft also diversifies its creative offerings with acrylic bear painting workshops. Participants are provided with an acrylic bear and a variety of colors to paint or pour, allowing for another form of personalized artistic creation. Similar to the tufting workshops, appointments are necessary for acrylic painting sessions, with a booking fee of $15 and the cost of the bear depending on its size. Terakawa expresses profound satisfaction in witnessing the joy and excitement of customers as they complete their self-made creations, highlighting the rewarding aspect of fostering imagination and artistic achievement within the community. The store is situated on the second floor of Tysons Corner Center, positioned across from Ash Salon & Spa and adjacent to Urban Outfitters.
