Installing Recessed Lighting Is Easier With Torchstar’s LEDs
The article details the installation process and benefits of using Torchstar's LED recessed lights. These lights are noted for their thin profile, allowing them to mount virtually flush with the ceiling, providing a clean aesthetic. They are available in 4- and 6-inch diameters and offer multiple color temperature options, from warm to cool white, catering to various preferences. Additionally, the specific models discussed are damp-rated, making them suitable for outdoor use or in bathrooms.
The installation, particularly in unfinished spaces like basements or areas with open ceiling access, is described as relatively straightforward. Key tools required for the installation include a drill, a hole saw (a 4.25-inch one for the 4-inch lights mentioned), wire cutters/strippers, Phillips and flat screwdrivers, a utility knife, a tape measure, and fish tape. For retrofitting in finished rooms, the process can be more complex due to the need to locate ceiling joists and run cables, potentially requiring access holes that would need repair.
Each light fixture comes with its own junction box, which needs to be securely fastened to a joist near the chosen light location. The installation involves removing knockouts from the junction boxes and installing connectors for non-metallic sheathed cable, typically 14/2 cable for 15-amp circuits, ensuring compliance with local electrical codes. For multiple lights, a daisy-chain method is employed, where each intermediate junction box requires two connectors (one for incoming and one for outgoing cable), while the last box only needs one.
The author's personal experience involved installing these lights under a roof overhang, replacing an existing fixture. The open space in the overhang facilitated cable routing. Out of a set of six lights, three were installed in the described location, with the remaining three reserved for another area. The entire installation took approximately 90 minutes. After installation, the color settings were adjusted to a warmer tone during dusk to achieve the desired ambiance. The new LED recessed lights significantly improved the lighting and enhanced the character of the old farmhouse compared to the original overhead fixture.
Torchstar's 4-inch color-selectable LED recessed lights are highlighted, offering five selectable color options, an included junction box for each light, and dimmability from 10 to 100 percent. Their simple design allows them to blend seamlessly with various decors. A potential drawback is the difficulty of retrofitting them in already finished spaces.
