Before You Splurge on a Panel-Ready Dishwasher, Try This 5-Minute Hack
Mallory Fletchall, known through her Instagram account Reserve Home, showcases her approach to enhancing the character and warmth of a Brooklyn rental. Her feed offers insights into styling techniques, antique acquisitions, and a design aesthetic that merges Victorian, Regency, and Midcentury elements. Fletchall has undertaken several significant home projects, including the installation of a built-in banquette in a dining nook. Her most recent endeavor involved concealing her kitchen's aging dishwasher, a task completed in under five minutes.
For three years, Fletchall aimed to camouflage the signs of wear and tear on her dishwasher. In a kitchen meticulously curated with antique accents and carefully arranged ceramics, a scuffed stainless-steel dishwasher front appeared incongruous. When she decided to introduce more charm and coziness to her predominantly beige kitchen, she recognized the need to replace the painted ivory beadboard previously used to hide the appliance. Discovering a curtain hack shared by another creator, Fletchall was inspired to adopt the idea.
She took precise measurements to find a suitable magnetic adjustable curtain rod and a pair of interchangeable cafe curtains. To achieve a tailored look, she hemmed the ready-made curtains to the exact required length. The magnetic rod, despite its delicate appearance, is noted for its strong hold, allowing users to operate the dishwasher by grasping both the rod and the appliance handle simultaneously. This project demonstrates the effectiveness of efficient solutions in home decor.
Fletchall appreciates the versatility of the curtain hack, noting that it allows for easy style changes, whether one desires an English Cottage aesthetic or a more minimalist look for a modern kitchen. The addition of a small landscape painting and an Art Deco-style antique mirror has completed the kitchen's inviting coffee corner, effectively drawing attention away from any outdated appliances. This simple, cost-effective solution provides a temporary yet stylish alternative to more expensive options like panel-ready dishwashers.
