federico babina collages a mix of edilpiù window frames to realize the lunette pavilion
Edilpiù, a prominent Italian brand specializing in doors and windows, has partnered with illustrator Federico Babina to unveil the Lunette Pavilion. This collaboration is part of Edilpiù’s cultural and artistic initiative, 'Openings,' which explores themes of threshold, openness, and the dynamic interplay between interior and exterior spaces. The Lunette Pavilion, designed by Babina, manifests as a playful structure constructed from a collage of timber door and window frames. This project is complemented by a documentary film titled 'Openings. Sguardi oltre il limite' (Openings. Looks Beyond the Limit), directed by Francesca Molteni and Mattia Colombo and produced by Edilpiù.
The 'Openings' project by Edilpiù and Federico Babina serves as both a homage to historical perspectives and a forward-looking exploration, especially pertinent given the shifts in living environments and redefined boundaries brought about by recent global events. The initiative aims to symbolize new possibilities for interaction and breathing room through architectural expression. Situated in Lugo, a historic city in northern Italy, the Lunette Pavilion delves into the concept of the window, broadening the architectural discussion to include the fundamental elements that constitute it. Babina emphasizes the window as 'the eyes of architecture,' transforming it from a mere portal into domestic life to a frame that accentuates surrounding narratives and landscapes.
The accompanying short film, 'Openings. Sguardi oltre il limite,' documents a journey along the Via Emilia, an ancient Roman road renowned for its scenic beauty, symbolizing a vast threshold connecting disparate regions. The film is a contemplative piece, offering viewers fresh perspectives and insights into the myriad opportunities that lie within seemingly small spatial divisions. It features a diverse cast of Italian and international figures, including architects like Alvaro Siza, Cino Zucchi, and Alfonso Femia, photographer Guido Guidi, sportsmen Andrea Stella and Davide Cassani, Emergency president Rossella Miccio, and Romagna region personality Raoul Casadei. Their varied viewpoints enrich the film's exploration of thresholds and connections, reinforcing the central themes of the 'Openings' project.
The Lunette Pavilion and its accompanying film highlight Edilpiù's commitment to quality and technological integration within the doors and windows sector, transcending conventional product presentation to engage with deeper cultural and architectural concepts. The project demonstrates how functional architectural components like windows can be reinterpreted as artistic and philosophical statements, fostering a richer understanding of space and interaction.
