Interior experts reveal the decorating style that can increase the value of your home by up to £10k

Home staging has emerged as an effective method for enhancing a property's value, with recent research highlighting a specific decorating style that could significantly boost a home's asking price. A survey conducted by Hammonds Furniture indicates that interior aesthetics play a crucial role for prospective buyers, with two in five Britons prioritizing a home decorated to their taste. The study reveals that a minimalist decor, characterized by white walls, clean lines, and an absence of clutter, is particularly appealing to house hunters. Kirsty Oakes, Head of Product and Marketing at Hammonds Furniture, explains that minimalist design allows potential buyers to envision themselves living in the space, or to imagine how they might personalize the rooms without being influenced by existing decor. This approach creates a neutral canvas that broadens a property's appeal. The survey, which included 2,000 UK adults, found that a significant portion of respondents, over one in ten, would be willing to offer up to £5,000 above the asking price for a home featuring minimalist interiors. This trend is even more pronounced among younger demographics, with 12% of 18-24-year-olds (Generation Z) prepared to pay as much as £10,000 over the asking price for a minimalist-style home. Olivia Ives, Head of Client Success at the PropTech startup flyp, corroborates these findings, emphasizing the substantial impact of decor on a home's market value. Ives notes that valuable features can be overlooked if obscured by clutter or if the property's potential is not clearly presented to buyers. She describes minimalist decor as a careful balance between thoughtful and understated design, which helps in showcasing a home's best attributes. Conversely, certain decorating styles can detract from a home's value and hinder a quick sale. Bold and colorful interiors, despite their current trendiness, are generally less favored by buyers when it comes to property transactions. Nearly one-third of house hunters indicated they would offer below the asking price for homes decorated in a maximalist style. Bohemian and Art Deco designs also received similar negative feedback, with 31% of respondents stating they would pay less for properties featuring these aesthetics. Nick Neill, Managing Director of EweMove Sales & Lettings Ltd, reinforces the importance of depersonalizing a home for sale. He observes that many buyers struggle to look past the current owner's personal decor, furniture, and overall aesthetic. This often leads to homes with eccentric or less conventional designs taking longer to sell. Neill concludes that minimalism is the most attractive style to buyers because it evokes a sense of cleanliness, light, and spaciousness, allowing them to more easily picture their own lives unfolding within the home. #HomeStaging #MinimalistDecor #PropertyValue #InteriorDesignTrends #RealEstateMarketing #HomeImprovement #HouseHunting #GenZBuyers #Decluttering #HomeStaging #MinimalistDecor #PropertyValue #InteriorDesignTrends #RealEstateMarketing #HomeImprovement #HouseHunting #GenZBuyers #Decluttering
