Why Minnesota Is Now in Love With This Odd Home Decor Item

Home renovation and interior design have become increasingly popular in Minnesota, largely influenced by the proliferation of renovation shows on television networks like HGTV and streaming platforms such as Discovery+. This trend has led to a noticeable focus on specific home decor items within the state. A recent survey conducted by Workshopedia, which analyzed Google Shopping trends over the past 12 months, aimed to identify the most popular home decor item across various states. For Minnesota, the survey yielded an unexpected result: the coat rack emerged as the most searched and, consequently, the most popular home decor item. This finding was shared with Michigan, indicating a regional affinity for this particular piece of furniture. The methodology employed by Workshopedia involved examining search data for 45 common decor items available at five major home goods retailers. The outcome, pinpointing the coat rack, surprised some, as it deviates from more conventional or aesthetically driven home improvements often highlighted in renovation media, such as shiplap accent walls, fireplaces, stainless steel appliances, or open-concept layouts. The article notes that while the author personally does not own a coat rack, instead storing coats in a closet near the garage, the survey suggests a widespread presence or interest in them across the state, informally known as the "North Star State." Comparatively, the survey revealed different popular decor items in neighboring states. In Wisconsin, the most searched item was stools, particularly bar stools, a preference the article links to the state's culture of social drinking. Meanwhile, in Iowa, curtains were identified as the most popular item among search queries. These regional variations highlight distinct priorities or practical needs in home furnishing preferences across the Midwest. The article also makes a brief reference to HGTV's "Stay or Sell" show, mentioning that the hosts, the Foxes, had put their million-dollar Edina home on the market. This serves as a segue to encourage readers to view accompanying images of that house to see if it included the popular Minnesota item—a coat rack. This further ties into the broader theme of home decor trends and their prevalence in real-world residential settings, even among those featured on popular home improvement shows. #MinnesotaHomeDecor #HomeRenovation #HGTV #InteriorDesign #HomeDecorTrends #SurveyResults #RegionalPreferences #Lifestyle #MinnesotaHomeDecor #HomeRenovation #HGTV #InteriorDesign #HomeDecorTrends #SurveyResults #RegionalPreferences #Lifestyle
