10 kitchen colours that can help you sell your home quickly
The color of a kitchen can significantly influence potential home buyers, as evidenced by a recent study conducted by Rated People, which surveyed 2,000 UK home buyers. The study revealed that the aesthetic appeal and, specifically, the color of kitchen units play a crucial role in purchasing decisions. This article highlights the top 10 kitchen colors that are most likely to attract buyers, providing insights into their popularity and aesthetic qualities.
Light neutral colors, such as white and light grey, emerged as the most favored options. White kitchens were the top choice, with 27% of respondents indicating that this color would make them more inclined to buy a property. White offers a neutral foundation, allowing new homeowners flexibility in personalization, and creates a perception of cleanliness, brightness, and spaciousness during property viewings. Light grey followed closely, appealing to 22% of buyers. Its enduring popularity is consistent with design trends, with soft pebble grey even being recognized as Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2021.
Beyond neutrals, natural wood kitchens garnered approval from 21% of home buyers. This choice is associated with a farmhouse aesthetic, providing a warm, traditional feel through wooden cabinets, countertops, flooring, and furniture. Cream kitchens, a traditional yet versatile option, were preferred by 19% of respondents. A cream palette offers a warm and inviting atmosphere and can be easily complemented with various colors like navy blue, white, black, forest green, or pink, providing a flexible base for future decoration. Off-white, a warmer alternative to stark white, was favored by 15% of buyers. It can incorporate cool grey or warm yellow undertones, breaking the intensity of pure white and enhancing the kitchen's welcoming ambiance.
Darker and bolder shades also made the list, indicating a growing appreciation for sophisticated designs. Dark grey kitchens were appealing to 11% of buyers. This versatile color can suit both traditional styles, with matte charcoal cabinetry and warm wood, and modern industrial designs featuring clean lines and crisp white surfaces. Light blue, an on-trend color, influenced 8% of buyers. It can evoke a retro vibe with matte cabinets and silver fittings or a contemporary feel with glossy units that mimic a bright sky. Black kitchens, though a bold choice, were also favored by 8% of respondents, appreciated for their clean, fuss-free appearance and their ability to complement various accent colors and metalwork.
Finally, light brown kitchens were preferred by 5% of potential buyers. This color, often associated with wood, offers a practical and durable solution. Options range from smooth light oak cabinetry to traditional shaker styles, contributing to an inviting and enduring kitchen design. Dark blue, also chosen by 5% of buyers, is considered a more forgiving dark shade than black. It is typically paired with light wooden flooring and milky white counters to balance its depth and prevent an overly heavy aesthetic.
